How to choose a certification
Which certification fits your goal?
- Salesforce administration: Platform Administrator. Covers configuring, securing and running a Salesforce org, from users and sharing to Flow and reports. Salesforce recommends six months of admin experience.
- Salesforce development: Platform Developer. Covers building custom logic and interfaces on Salesforce with Apex, Flow and Lightning components. Choose it if you write code; the exam is code-heavy.
- ServiceNow administration: CSA. The first ServiceNow certification: configuring and running an instance, including users and roles, forms and lists, the service catalog and data imports. ServiceNow's free Administration Fundamentals course covers the exam.
- Microsoft 365 administration: Administrator Expert. Covers running a Microsoft 365 tenant across identity, security and compliance. You need the MS-102 exam plus one of four accepted associate certifications. Microsoft retires this certification on November 30, 2026.
- SAP financial accounting: S/4HANA Financial Accounting. SAP's functional certification for financial accounting in S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition: general ledger, payables, receivables, asset accounting and period-end close. The assessment is a set of tasks in a live system.
What to know before choosing
- Platform and professional skills differ. A platform certification shows you can configure a specific system. An SAP finance certification and an accounting qualification serve different needs.
- Practice in a real system. Salesforce and ServiceNow offer free practice environments. For SAP and Microsoft 365, check what practice access your training includes.
- Pick the exact track and product. Salesforce separates administrator and developer certifications, and SAP certifications are tied to a specific product edition, such as S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition.
