Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) Courses

Validates foundational knowledge of project management, predictive delivery, agile approaches and business analysis for supporting project work.

A CAPM course has two jobs: giving you the 23 hours of project management education PMI requires and preparing you for the scenario questions on the exam. We compared the main options on both, along with format, practice and price.

Most people should take Andrew Ramdayal's 25-hour TIA course, which covers the 23 required hours for $30. Choose PMI's own course when your employer pays and wants the official one, or Google's certificate for a broader beginner program with assignments.

CAPM Exam Prep E-Learning 25 Hour Class

Andrew Ramdayal teaches terms, principles, predictive, agile and hybrid delivery, and business analysis in about 25 hours of recorded video. Completing it gives you a certificate for the 23 training hours PMI requires.

Great fit if you need the 23 hours and a full course at a low price

Poor fit if you want a broader program with graded assignments; choose Google's certificate

Official PMI course

CAPM Exam Prep Course

PMI's own on-demand course is built on the CAPM exam outline and provides the 23 hours of training. It comes from the organisation that writes the exam.

Great fit if your employer pays and wants the official course

Poor fit if you are paying yourself; Ramdayal's course gives the same hours for far less

Broader beginner program

Google Project Management Certificate

A seven-course beginner program on Coursera with practice-based assessments and an applied project. Google is a PMI Authorized Training Partner, and the program counts toward the 23 hours and comes with a CAPM discount code.

Great fit if you want hands-on beginner training and a second credential

Poor fit if you only need the 23 hours quickly; choose Ramdayal's CAPM course

How to choose a CAPM course

  • Get your 23 hours. PMI requires 23 hours of project management education from a course before you apply. Reading or watching videos on your own does not count, and all three options here qualify.
  • Cover the current outline. The exam follows the 2023 CAPM outline: project fundamentals, predictive, agile and hybrid delivery, and business analysis. A CAPM-specific course covers it directly, while Google's certificate is a broader program.
  • Add practice questions. A course teaches the content, but PMI's scenario wording takes separate practice. Add a question bank, such as Landini's book or TIA's simulator, whichever course you choose.
  • Choose the right length. TIA's course takes about 25 hours. Google's certificate takes about 6 months at 10 hours a week, so it suits you only if you want the wider training.

Recommended CAPM course combinations

  • Lowest cost: Andrew Ramdayal's TIA course ($30) with his free 50 CAPM practice questions on YouTube and Peter Landini's practice questions book ($15).
  • Video explanations: The TIA course ($30) and the TIA CAPM Exam Simulator ($30), which explains every answer on video.
  • Broad beginner program: Google's Project Management Certificate ($49/month) with PMI's free CAPM sample questions, then Landini's book ($15) for exam-style wording.
  • Employer pays: PMI's CAPM Exam Prep Course ($400) with PMI Study Hall CAPM ($49 for 3 months) and the CAPM Practice Exam ($99).
