Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) Practice Tests

Validates knowledge of business analysis planning, elicitation, requirements management, strategy analysis, design definition and solution evaluation.

CBAP is 120 case-study and scenario-based multiple-choice questions in 210 minutes: long "what should the business analyst do" items, and candidates say the case studies come first. We compared the main options on case-study practice, question volume and price.

IIBA publishes only a few sample questions and no practice exam, so most people should start with Adaptive US's free set. Use Watermark's simulations for case-style practice and one cheaper bank for volume.

CBAP exam sample questions

IIBA's own sample questions, each with an answer key but almost no explanation. Good for seeing how the exam words things, not for practising.

Great fit if you want to see official CBAP wording before you spend anything.

Poor fit if you want explanations or timed practice; use the Adaptive US free set, then a full simulator.

Free case-study set

CBAP free trial and mock questions

A free set of mock questions and a sample simulation, including a long case study, with answers that cite BABOK sections. Passing candidates mention it as a free first check.

Great fit if you want free case-style practice with explanations before paying for a simulator.

Poor fit if you need full-length timed exams; the paid Adaptive US simulation or Watermark covers those.

Case-study simulations

CBAP Online Study Exam

Warm-ups, drills by knowledge area or technique and timed 120-question simulations, with explanations that cite the BABOK. Candidates praise its case questions but say some wording is ambiguous.

Great fit if you want the closest rehearsal of the long case-study section and plan drills first, simulations late.

Poor fit if you want the lowest price or tighter question wording; see Adaptive US and Techcanvass.

Largest question bank

CBAP Simulation

Chapter-based questions plus six full-length simulations, with answer explanations. One passer averaged noticeably higher here than on Watermark, so read its scores as the friendlier of the two.

Great fit if you want the biggest bank for the money, with a free trial first.

Poor fit if you want the toughest case-style rehearsal; add Watermark simulations.

Lowest-cost bank

CBAP Question Bank

Knowledge-area tests, 50 case studies and two to four simulations depending on the plan. Candidates say some questions and explanations are badly worded or hard to follow.

Great fit if you want cheap extra volume after a better-explained bank.

Poor fit if you rely on explanations to learn; use Watermark or Adaptive US as your main bank.

What to look for in a CBAP practice test

  • Built on the BABOK Guide v3 and IIBA's six knowledge areas. The exam is 120 questions in 210 minutes, weighted Requirements analysis and design definition 30%, Requirements life cycle management 15%, Strategy analysis 15%, Planning and monitoring 14%, Solution evaluation 14% and Elicitation and collaboration 12%. A bank should cover all six, with the biggest share on requirements analysis.
  • Case studies, not only short questions. Candidates report about 40 case-study questions, 3 to 4 per long scenario, followed by roughly 75 to 85 short scenarios. Watermark's simulations include long cases and Techcanvass lists 50 case studies; a bank of short questions alone will under-prepare you for the first hour.
  • Explanations that tie each answer back to the BABOK. CBAP answers are chosen by how the BABOK frames the situation, so an explanation that cites the task or technique teaches more than a key. Candidates say Watermark and Adaptive US explain well and that some Techcanvass explanations do not make sense.
  • Technique-selection and calculation questions. Passers report 25 to 30 questions that ask you to read a technique diagram or pick the right technique, plus a handful of calculations. Look for technique drills as well as knowledge-area questions.
  • No official full-length exam, so third-party tests are approximations. IIBA publishes sample questions only. Candidates say the real exam is better worded than Watermark's questions, and that Simplilearn's free test and Igor Arkhipov's Udemy questions are easier than the real thing.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual CBAP questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items, not practice. Use products that write their own questions and explain every answer, so you learn the reasoning the exam tests.

How to use CBAP practice tests

  • Start with drills by knowledge area. Take a short set in each area after you read it in the BABOK. Passers used the scores to decide which chapters to read again, and one who scored about 50% on early questions despite knowing the BABOK went back and read it twice.
  • Read every explanation, including questions you got right. CBAP often offers four plausible answers and asks for the one the BABOK would choose. Passers say understanding why a task exists beats memorising inputs and outputs.
  • Weight your time by the blueprint. Requirements analysis and design definition is 30% of the exam. Keep a tally by knowledge area so a strong area does not hide a weak one.
  • Practise sitting 3.5 hours before exam day. Candidates call concentration over the full 210 minutes the hardest part. Do at least two full simulations late, one back to back with a break, and decide in advance whether you will take the cases first or skip them and return.
  • Compare scores within one product, not across products. One passer averaged about ten points higher on Adaptive US than on Watermark and passed. Judge progress by your trend inside each product, and stop repeating a simulation once you remember its answers.

CBAP practice test FAQ

Are there free CBAP practice tests?

Yes. IIBA's CBAP page has free sample questions with answer keys, and Adaptive US gives a free trial with 50 mock questions and a sample simulation. Simplilearn also offers a free 150-question test, but one passer found it too easy.

Are CBAP practice exams harder than the real exam?

Candidates are split. Several passers scored lower on Watermark simulations than they had expected and still passed, and one found the real exam easier than the mocks; another called the real exam among the hardest they had taken. Treat any mock score as a rough guide.

How many CBAP practice exams should I take?

Passers report anywhere from two to nine full simulations on top of knowledge-area drills. Two or three on questions you have not seen, each reviewed in full, is a sensible target.

What do CBAP exam questions look like?

The exam has 120 multiple-choice case-study and scenario-based questions in 210 minutes. Expect about a dozen long cases with several questions each, then short scenarios, including technique-selection, diagram-reading and a few calculation questions.
