Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) (312-49) Practice Tests

Validates knowledge of digital forensics, including evidence handling and analysis of disks, operating systems, networks, cloud and mobile.

CHFI v11 is 150 multiple-choice questions in 4 hours, covering forensic procedure, evidence, US-leaning legal rules and tools, so good practice has to cover all four. We compared the main options on official coverage, question volume and price.

Few independent practice products exist, so start with EC-Council's free 50-question assessment, then add its Exam Prep or a low-cost unofficial set for volume.

CHFI Assessment

A 50-question test from the exam's publisher that shows your answers and score at the end. It asks for your name, email, phone and address, and EC-Council may contact you afterwards.

Great fit if you want the publisher's own question style at no cost before you buy anything.

Poor fit if you want a full-length timed exam; use the Udemy tests, which match the exam's 150 questions.

Publisher's own practice

CHFI Exam Prep

EC-Council's progressive assessment, which tracks your proficiency by exam objective as you work through it. EC-Council publishes no question count and the store page lists no simulated exam mode.

Great fit if you want practice from the exam's publisher and a view of your weak objectives.

Poor fit if you want a timed 150-question run or a lower price; try the Udemy tests.

What to look for in a CHFI practice test

  • Match the version. CHFI v11, exam 312-49 on Exam Blueprint v4.0, is the current exam. Candidates who studied from v10 questions report the v11 exam did not match them, so use only material that names v11.
  • Know the domain weights. Digital forensics is 29% of the exam, digital evidence 18%, procedures and methodology 17%, forensic science 15%, tools 11% and regulations and ethics 10%. Practise in those proportions.
  • Expect US law and tool questions. One 2025 candidate noted many practice questions turn on US law and compliance, and the exam is 150 questions in 4 hours, so legal and tool questions both need practice.
  • Expect few products and many leaked-question sites. Major practice vendors do not sell a CHFI set. Sites selling 'real 312-49 questions' breach EC-Council's NDA, which allows bans and revoked certifications, and candidates who relied on leaked questions report failing v11.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual CHFI questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items, not practice. Use products that write their own questions and explain every answer, so you learn the reasoning the exam tests.

How to use CHFI practice tests

  • Take the free assessment first. Do EC-Council's 50-question assessment before heavy study to see which of the six domains are weakest.
  • Log misses by domain. Write each miss against its blueprint domain and revisit digital forensics (29%) and digital evidence (18%) first.
  • Practise the investigation steps. Questions ask what to do first when acquiring or preserving evidence. If you have lab access, rehearse acquisition and analysis steps rather than only reading about them.

CHFI practice test FAQ

Are there free CHFI practice tests?

Yes. EC-Council offers a free 50-question CHFI assessment that shows your answers and score at the end. It asks for contact details first.

Does EC-Council sell an official CHFI practice test?

Yes. CHFI Exam Prep costs $149 for one year and gives a progressive assessment that tracks proficiency by objective. EC-Council does not publish how many questions it holds.

Are CHFI practice questions like the real exam?

Candidates who failed v11 say the v10 questions they practised did not match it, and one noted the legal questions lean on US law. Use v11 material and learn the reasoning rather than the answers.

How many CHFI practice tests should I take?

There is no official number and few products exist. Take the free assessment, then one or two full-length runs, and review every miss by domain.
