Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Courses

Validates knowledge of internal audit fundamentals, ethics, engagement planning and performance, and managing the internal audit function.

A good CIA course covers all three exam parts of The IIA's current syllabus, adapts to your weak areas and gives you enough practice questions for scenario-style items. We compared the main options on coverage, question banks, access and price.

Most people should start with Surgent, which has the lowest upfront price and adapts to your weak areas. Choose Gleim for the largest question bank and access until you pass, Becker for the longest access, and HOCK to pay month to month.

How to choose a CIA course

  • Match the current syllabus. The IIA's CIA exam follows the 2025 syllabus and the Global Internal Audit Standards. All four courses here are updated for it.
  • Price all three parts. The CIA has three exams, so compare the total for the full set, not one part. Surgent also sells single parts.
  • Compare access, not just price. Surgent Essentials lasts 18 months and Becker Essentials 24. Gleim Premium lasts until you pass, Becker Premium and Pro are unlimited, and HOCK runs month to month.
  • Check the question volume. HOCK includes 4,800+ practice questions and nine mock exams. Gleim sells a large test bank on its own for $499.

Recommended CIA course combinations

  • Lowest cost: Surgent Essentials ($499) with The IIA's free CIA Sample Exam Questions to see the exam format.
  • Largest question bank: Gleim Traditional ($1,099), or Gleim Premium ($1,249) for access until you pass, then The IIA's CIA Practice Questions ($129 per part) as a final check.
  • Pay as you go: HOCK's CIA Membership ($120/month) for the course and question bank, and stop paying when you finish.
  • Employer pays: Becker Pro ($1,279), which adds live online classes, printed textbooks and a pass guarantee to the course.
