Validates knowledge of applying the FinOps Framework to AI costs, including allocation, forecasting, governance, optimization and unit economics.
AI Value tests whether you can apply the FinOps Framework to AI costs, from allocation and reporting to forecasting, governance and optimisation. Work through the three course levels in order, relate each lesson to AI spend you can see, then take the cumulative exam.
The rows are the three course levels, taken after an introduction and followed by the certification exam.
Example scenario: Three product teams share one model provider account. How would you allocate the monthly AI bill to each team?
Example scenario: A new AI assistant launches next quarter with uncertain usage. How would you build its first forecast and budget?
Example scenario: Usage of a new AI feature is still changing week to week. Would you commit to reserved capacity now? What would you check first?
Buy the course on learn.finops.org. There is no application or eligibility review.
Refresh the FinOps Framework if you need to, then work through the levels in order.
Most candidates spend 15–35 hours. Plan for the low end if you already know the FinOps Framework and work with AI spend; add time if the framework or AI cost drivers are new to you.
The official course is the only route to the exam. The Foundation's free AI Value topic pages are useful background.
Each course level ends with a badge check, which shows whether you are ready to move on. Before the exam, revisit any level where you were unsure and apply its methods to AI spend you can see at work.
You take the exam online from your learn.finops.org account once the three level badges are complete.
Non-native English speakers can request extended exam time through the FinOps Foundation training support form.
