GIAC Security Leadership (GSLC) Practice Tests

Validates knowledge of managing security programs, including policy, risk, projects, vendors, SOC management and incident response.

GSLC is an open-book, multiple-choice exam of 115 questions in three hours for managers, covering policy, risk, SOC, vendors, projects and incident response, with no CyberLive tasks.

GIAC's own practice test is the one dedicated product worth buying, and it doubles as your index check.

Official exam simulation

GIAC GSLC practice test

A practice exam in GIAC's own exam engine that simulates the real one, with a report of the objectives to revisit. The bank is limited, so questions can repeat across tests.

Great fit if you want to rehearse the real engine and timing, test your index, and see whether you already know enough to skip the course.

Poor fit if you want a large bank to drill from; the bank is small and your tests expire with your attempt.

What to look for in a GSLC practice test

  • Expect managerial wording. GSLC is 115 questions in three hours, open book, with no CyberLive tasks. GIAC lists 18 objectives, from SOC management, cloud, AI and application security to vendors, projects and awareness. Passers say the answer usually follows the manager's point of view.
  • Accept that one dedicated bank exists. Independent GSLC question banks are scarce, and A CISM or CISSP bank is not a substitute, because candidates say GSLC follows the LDR512 books.
  • Know the official bank is small. GIAC says the bank is limited, tests can repeat questions, and none include real exam questions. Two tests come with an attempt added to LDR512, extras cost $399, and access ends with your exam deadline.
  • Use the course quizzes if you have them. SANS OnDemand has a 20-question quiz after each module. Passers say they are easier than the exam but build the right way of thinking and are a good way to test your index.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual GSLC questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items. GIAC's exam integrity policy bans any use of exam dump sites and lets GIAC revoke your certifications and bar you from future ones. A real practice test explains why each answer is right; a dump only lists answers.

How to use GSLC practice tests

  • Index while you read. Passers who built their own index as they worked through the books describe 19 to 25 pages, with a short note and cross-references for each term. GIAC says building it yourself is what teaches you the material.
  • Use test one as an index diagnostic. After one full pass of the books, take the first test and log every miss, every unsure answer and every slow lookup. Fix the index, then spend your remaining time on those topics.
  • Space the tests and take the second late. Leave a few days between them, do not take two in one day, and sit the second within a week of the exam with only your printed index and books.
  • Watch the clock. A candidate ran out of time on a practice test with 16 questions left and 15 minutes to go. With about 1.5 minutes per question, you have to find answers quickly and skip slow items.
  • Check before buying the course. Candidates already holding CISSP or CISM were told to try the practice test first, because the $8,260 course may add little for them.

GSLC practice test FAQ

Are there free GSLC practice tests?

GIAC does not offer a free practice test or sample questions for GSLC, and no reliable free third-party bank exists. SANS OnDemand module quizzes come with the course.

How much is the GSLC practice test?

GIAC sells each test for $399, and two are included when you add a GSLC attempt to LDR512. A retake does not add new tests, and unused tests expire with your exam deadline.

Is the GSLC practice test like the real exam?

Candidates describe it as close, with practice scores of 84% to 87% followed by real scores of 86% to 90%. The real exam has some trickier questions that need ideas from several sections.

Can I take practice questions into the exam?

No. GIAC allows printed books, notes and your index, but hardcopy material that looks like practice or exam questions is prohibited, and nothing electronic is allowed.
