Most people should work through both free Microsoft Learn paths, Part 1 then Part 2, which GitHub's GH-300 study guide recommends. Choose DataCamp's track if you want guided exercises on agent mode, MCP and testing and will pay for a subscription.

How to choose a GitHub Copilot course

  • Follow the official study guide. GitHub's GH-300 study guide recommends the two Microsoft Learn paths, so they match what the exam covers.
  • Cover the newer features. Part 2 covers agent mode, the cloud agent, the GitHub MCP server and code review. Part 1 alone leaves these out.
  • Practice in your own editor. The exam asks how Copilot behaves across the IDE, chat, CLI and GitHub.com. Use Copilot yourself while you study, or take DataCamp's guided exercises.
  • Keep it short. GH-300 needs about 20 hours of preparation, so one set of lessons plus practice questions is enough.
