PRINCE2 Project Management Foundation Practice Tests

Validates foundational knowledge of the PRINCE2 project management method, including its principles, people, practices and processes.

PRINCE2 7 Foundation is 60 single-answer questions in 60 minutes, closed book, so practice is about recognising the method's terms quickly. We compared the main options on question volume, explanations and price.

Most people should start with a larger explained question bank to learn the style, then finish with PeopleCert's Official Mock Exam as a final rehearsal.

Final exam rehearsal

PRINCE2 7 Foundation Official Mock Exam

A full, timed and marked mock on PeopleCert's exam interface. You do not get the questions back afterwards; the report shows your results and the areas to improve.

Great fit if you are scoring well on the sample papers and want one realistic rehearsal before booking.

Poor fit if you need many practice runs or answer explanations; it is a single attempt (see TrustEd Institute or MPlaza).

Cheap large bank

PRINCE2 Foundation Practice Exams (v7)

A topic-by-topic bank with easy and difficult sets and five 60-question, 60-minute mock exams that do not overlap, plus answer explanations. One plan covers every certification on the site.

Great fit if you want a large, low-cost bank with a free trial to find weak topics.

Poor fit if you want the real exam's short wording; candidates say its questions run longer, so finish with the Official Mock Exam.

Fresh timed exams

PRINCE2 7 Foundation Exam Simulator

496 questions with an explanation for each, which the simulator reshuffles into new timed exams. A free demo shows a few questions without the coaching feature.

Great fit if you want many fresh timed exams with explanations and are happy to pay for a year of access.

Poor fit if you only need a final check or have a small budget; the Official Mock Exam and TrustEd cost less.

What to look for in a PRINCE2 Project Management Foundation practice test

  • Written for PRINCE2 7, not the 2017 edition. Foundation has tested the 7th edition since September 2023, but some free tests and Udemy sets still follow the 2017 (6th edition) framework. Look for "PRINCE2 7" or "7th edition" on the product page and skip anything dated 2023 or earlier.
  • The real format: 60 single-answer questions in 60 minutes. Expect plain questions, "which is NOT" and "which statement is CORRECT" items, "which TWO" items and missing-word sentences. A set with long opinion-style questions or several right-looking answers does not match the exam.
  • Short, plain questions. Candidates say the real exam asks for recall and understanding of principles, practices and terms, and that some third-party questions are much wordier. If a mock feels vague or tricky, it probably is not aligned with the official papers.
  • Explanations that cite the manual. PeopleCert's sample-paper rationales point to manual sections for every option. The Official Mock Exam only returns a results report by area, so pair it with a bank that explains each answer.
  • How many fresh papers you actually have. PeopleCert's official mock gives one attempt, so most of your fresh questions will come from third-party banks of 496 to 5,770 questions.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual PRINCE2 Foundation questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items, not practice. Use products that write their own questions and explain every answer, so you learn the reasoning the exam tests.

How to use PRINCE2 Project Management Foundation practice tests

  • Sit Sample Paper 1 cold as a diagnostic. Time it at 60 minutes, mark it, then read the rationale for every question to see which parts of the manual you have not learned yet.
  • Review every answer, including the ones you got right. Read why each answer is right or wrong, including the ones you guessed. Candidates who passed credit this review, and most early misses come from not reading the question and options closely.
  • Use a bank to drill weak topics. TrustEd and MPlaza let you work by topic. Practise one practice, such as risk, quality or issues, until you stop missing it, then go back to full 60-question runs.
  • Save the Official Mock Exam for last. It can be taken once, so book it when your papers are consistently strong. Candidates call it the closest rehearsal and a good guide to weak areas, and describe it as harder than the exam.
  • Do not memorise the papers. One long-time training provider warns that PeopleCert changes the live papers and many questions are not in the samples. Repeating a bank until the scores look high can feel like readiness without being readiness.

PRINCE2 Project Management Foundation practice test FAQ

Are there free PRINCE2 Foundation practice tests?

Only as trials. TrustEd Institute and MPlaza offer a free trial or demo, and PeopleCert's own sample papers come with accredited training. Simplilearn's free 75-question test follows the 2017 framework, so it does not match the 7th edition.

Is the PRINCE2 Foundation practice exam harder than the real exam?

Candidates who compare them describe PeopleCert's Official Mock Exam as harder than the real exam. Third-party sets vary: TrustEd's questions are described as wordier than the real ones.

How many PRINCE2 Foundation practice exams should I take?

There is no set number. The Official Mock Exam and a handful of third-party exams, each followed by a full review, is a sensible target. Reviewing why you missed a question is worth more than a higher count.

What is the format of the PRINCE2 7 Foundation exam?

It is 60 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, closed book, with one correct answer per question, and 36 correct answers is the pass mark. Some questions ask which statement is not correct or ask you to pick two.
