Validates knowledge of building Salesforce applications with Apex, Flow and Lightning Web Components, and testing and deploying them.
The exam checks whether you know how Apex, SOQL, Lightning Web Components and declarative tools work together on a multi-tenant platform, within governor limits. Write real code in a Developer Edition org, learn when Flow is the better answer, and practise multi-select scenario questions.
1Understand the exam
Syllabus
Developer fundamentals27%
Understand multi-tenant concepts and design frameworks, such as MVC architecture and Lightning Component Framework
Identify common use cases and best practices for declarative versus programmatic customizations, including governor limits, formula fields, and roll-up summariesScenario
Determine, create, and access the appropriate data model including objects, fields, relationships, and external IDsScenario
Understand use cases and limitations of using Agentforce for Developers
Example scenario: A total of related invoice amounts must show on each account. When would a roll-up summary work, and when would you need code?
Process automation and logic28%
Identify the capabilities of the declarative process automation features
Understand how to declare variables, constants, methods, modifiers, Apex interfaces, and the appropriate use cases for each
Assess how Apex control flow statements will execute and when to apply different control flow statementsScenario
Write SOSL, SOQL, and DML statements in Apex, and assess what they will returnScenario
Follow best practices to write Apex classes and triggersScenario
Understand governor limits and their implications on Apex transactionsScenario
Describe the relationship between Apex transactions, the save order of execution, and the potential for recursion and/or cascading
Implement exception handling in Apex, including custom exceptions as needed
Use declarative functionality and Apex together to automate business logicScenario
Example scenario: A trigger works for one record but fails when 200 records are loaded at once. What would you look for in the code?
User interface25%
Prevent user interface and data access security vulnerabilitiesScenario
Display and use custom user interface components, including Lightning components, Flow, and VisualforceScenario
Describe the use cases and best practices for Lightning Web Components, including the framework, benefits, and events
Implement Apex to work with various types of page components, including Lightning components, Flow, and AgentforceScenario
Example scenario: A Lightning Web Component shows records the current user should not see. Where would you enforce sharing and field access?
Testing, debugging, and deployment20%
Write and execute tests for triggers, controllers, classes, and flows using various sources of test data
Know how and when to use the Salesforce Developer tools such as Salesforce DX, Salesforce CLI, and Developer ConsoleScenario
Describe how to approach debugging system issues and monitoring flows, performance, asynchronous, and batch jobs
Describe the environments, requirements, and process for deploying code and associated configurations
Example scenario: A deployment to production fails because of code coverage. What would you check in the test classes?
Multiple choice. Choose the best answer from the options, often for a short code snippet or business scenario.
CertUp example
An Apex trigger on Account runs a SOQL query inside a for loop over Trigger.new. What is the main risk when 200 accounts are inserted at once?
The transaction exceeds the limit on SOQL queries
The trigger does not fire for bulk inserts
The records are saved in a random order
The query returns null for every account
Show answer
The transaction exceeds the limit on SOQL queries. A query inside a loop runs once per record, so large batches hit the governor limit; query once outside the loop instead.
Eligibility and booking
Register through Trailhead Academy with your Trailhead account, then schedule with Pearson VUE at a test centre or online.
Read the exam guide, set up a Developer Edition org and take a short diagnostic set. Spend most of your time writing and testing Apex.
Most candidates spend 70–130 hours. Plan for the low end if you already build on Salesforce; plan for the high end if you program but are new to Apex, or have not written code before.

3Learn the core conceptsWork through one main course or book, topic by topic.60 h

3Learn the core concepts
Use one course to build Apex, SOQL and LWC in your own org. The official Trailhead study trail is a short review of each section.
Load 200 records. Test every trigger and class with a bulk data load, not one record. Governor limit questions are easier once you have hit a limit yourself.
4Practice with mock exams
Use topic sets to find gaps, then full timed exams. For each wrong answer, write a small piece of code that proves the right one.
Passers describe answer choices built around specific platform limits. Eliminating options you know are wrong for a reason worked better than looking for the one that felt right.
Candidates with coding backgrounds report fewer code snippets than expected, with many questions on Flow, the data model and platform behaviour, plus a few Agentforce questions.
