Cisco Certified Network Professional Enterprise (CCNP Enterprise) Exam Guide
Validates knowledge of enterprise network architecture, virtualization, infrastructure, assurance, security and automation for designing and troubleshooting networks.
CCNP Enterprise is two exams. ENCOR tests broad enterprise networking, from OSPF, BGP and spanning tree to SD-WAN, SD-Access, security and automation, with hands-on lab items alongside multiple choice. Your concentration exam then goes deeper in one specialty. Study ENCOR domain by domain with lab practice, then repeat the cycle for your concentration.
1Understand the exam
Syllabus
The first six domains are ENCOR and the last section is the concentration exam you choose.
1.0Architecture15%
1.1Explain the different design principles used in an enterprise network
1.2Explain the working principles of the Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN solution
1.3Explain the working principles of the Cisco SD-Access solution
1.4Interpret QoS configurations
Example scenario: A retailer wants branch traffic to fail over between MPLS and internet links based on application performance. Which parts of an SD-WAN design would you explain to them?
2.0Virtualization10%
2.1Describe device virtualization technologies
2.2Configure and verify data path virtualization technologies
2.3Describe network virtualization concepts
Example scenario: Two business units share a router but must keep identical 10.1.0.0/16 address ranges separate. How would VRFs solve this, and how would you verify it?
3.0Infrastructure30%
3.1Layer 2
3.2Layer 3
3.3IP Services
Example scenario: An OSPF neighbor between two routers is stuck in EXSTART after an MTU change on one side. What output would you check, and what would you change?
4.0Network assurance10%
4.1Diagnose network problems using such as debugs, conditional debugs, traceroute, ping, SNMP, and syslog
4.2Configure and verify Flexible NetFlow
4.3Configure SPAN/RSPAN/ERSPAN
4.4Configure and verify IPSLA
4.5Describe how Cisco Catalyst Center (formerly Cisco DNA Center) is used to apply network configuration, monitoring, and management using traditional and AI-powered workflows
4.6Configure and verify NETCONF and RESTCONF
Example scenario: Users at one site report slow voice calls every afternoon. Which assurance tools would you use to find where packets are delayed?
5.0Security20%
5.1Configure and verify device access control
5.2Configure and verify infrastructure security features
5.3Describe REST API security
5.4Describe the components of network security design
Example scenario: A router's CPU spikes whenever someone scans the management network. How would CoPP help, and what traffic would you protect first?
6.0Automation and artificial intelligence15%
6.1Interpret basic Python components and scripts
6.2Construct valid JSON-encoded files
6.3Describe the high-level principles and benefits of a data modeling language, such as YANG
6.4Describe APIs for Cisco Catalyst Center and SD-WAN Manager
6.5Interpret REST API response codes and results in payload using Cisco Catalyst Center and RESTCONF
6.6Construct an EEM applet to automate configuration, troubleshooting, or data collection
6.7Compare agent vs. agentless orchestration tools
Example scenario: A script calling the Catalyst Center API returns a 401 response. What does that tell you, and what would you check in the request?
Concentration exam
Routing and services: 300-410 ENARSI goes deeper into routing, VPN services, infrastructure security and services.
Choose the best answer from the options, or the stated number of answers when a question asks for more than one.
CertUp example
An engineer needs two departments that use the same IP range to share one router without seeing each other's routes. Which technology provides separate routing tables on the router?
VRF
HSRP
SPAN
NetFlow
Show answer
A. A VRF gives each department its own routing table on the same router. HSRP provides gateway redundancy, SPAN mirrors traffic and NetFlow exports flow records.
Move items into the correct slots or match them to the correct description.
CertUp example
Drag each tool to the job it does best.
SPAN
IP SLA
Flexible NetFlow
Syslog
Show answer
SPAN → mirror traffic to an analyser, IP SLA → generate probes to measure delay, Flexible NetFlow → export per-flow traffic records, Syslog → collect device event messages.
Complete a hands-on task on simulated devices, such as configuring a feature or reading command output to find a fault.
CertUp example
Two routers on a point-to-point link are in the same OSPF area but do not form an adjacency. Use show commands on both routers to find the mismatch and correct it.
Show answer
Compare the hello and dead timers, area ID and authentication in show ip ospf interface on both routers, and change the mismatched setting so the neighbor reaches FULL.
2Make a study plan
Review CCNA-level routing and switching first, then work through ENCOR domain by domain with labs. Start the concentration once ENCOR is booked or passed.
Most candidates spend 150–350 hours. These hours cover ENCOR and one concentration exam. Plan for the low end if you already run enterprise networks day to day; add time if routing protocols or automation are new to you.
1Understand the examRead the syllabus and format, check you’re eligible and pick a target date.10 h
3Learn the core conceptsWork through one main course or book, topic by topic.120 h
4Practice with mock examsTake timed practice tests and review every mistake.60 h
5Prepare for exam dayBook the exam and check the ID and delivery rules.10 h
3Learn the core concepts
Use the exam topics as your checklist, one main course and a lab tool such as Cisco Modeling Labs, GNS3 or EVE-NG.
One candidate who passed ENCOR v1.2 in 2026 described an exam heavy on automation, SD-WAN, Catalyst Center APIs, LISP and VXLAN, with fewer than 60 questions plus six labs. Another said they failed with automation as the weak point.
Replies to a candidate choosing a concentration recommend ENARSI for routing and switching roles, because other specialties build on it, and ENSDWI if your job already involves SD-WAN.
