Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) (312-50) Practice Tests

Validates knowledge of attacker tools and techniques, including reconnaissance, system, network, web, wireless and cloud attacks, and cryptography.

CEH is 125 multiple-choice questions in 4 hours, many of them long scenarios where two answers can look right, so good practice has to rehearse that wording. We compared the main options on question style, timed exams, volume and price.

Start with EC-Council's free 50-question assessment, then use Boson's timed exams for the scenario style and a larger bank such as Pocket Prep for volume.

CEH Assessment

A 50-question test from the exam's publisher that shows your answers and score at the end. It asks for your name, email, phone and address, and EC-Council may contact you afterwards.

Great fit if you want the publisher's own question style at no cost before you spend anything.

Poor fit if you want a full-length timed exam or explanations for every option; use Training Camp's free test or Boson.

Free explained quiz

Free CEH Practice Test

A 50-question run on a 90-minute timer, or a 25-question quick test, with an explanation of the right answer and each wrong one after every question and a score by topic. Training Camp sells CEH courses.

Great fit if you want free, explained practice in CEH's scenario style.

Poor fit if you need more than one short run; use Boson or Pocket Prep.

Timed full exams

ExSim-Max for Ethical Hacking

Three full-length exams with explanations of every answer and a simulation mode that follows exam timing. Candidates value it for practising confusing wording, though they differ on how close it is to the real exam.

Great fit if you want timed, full-length exams and detailed explanations.

Poor fit if you want a big bank to drill by topic; add Pocket Prep.

Study on your phone

Pocket Prep CEH

Short quizzes in an app to drill by topic. One candidate who used it alongside Boson found its questions shorter, so it suits quick review more than long scenarios.

Great fit if you study in short sessions on your phone and want a large bank.

Poor fit if you want long scenario questions or full-length timed exams; use Boson.

Publisher's own practice

CEH Exam Prep

EC-Council's own assessments: a simulated mode that mimics the real exam and a progressive mode that tracks your proficiency by objective. EC-Council publishes no question count.

Great fit if you want practice from the exam's publisher and are not taking its official training.

Poor fit if you are taking EC-Council's official training, which already includes practice test banks by domain.

What to look for in a CEH practice test

  • Match the version. CEH v13, exam 312-50 on Exam Blueprint v5.0, is the current exam. Prefer products that name 312-50 and cover the nine blueprint domains, and treat older v10 to v12 question banks as background only.
  • Expect long scenario questions. The exam is 125 multiple-choice questions in 4 hours. Recent candidates describe scenarios of several lines where two answers look right and you choose the best fit, so short fact quizzes alone leave a gap.
  • Weight your practice by domain. Network and perimeter hacking is 24% of the exam, reconnaissance 17%, system hacking 15% and web application hacking 14%. Choose products that report your score by topic.
  • Practise tools and security settings, not just definitions. Candidates report questions on specific tools and commands, and one counted six or seven on cookie flags, HTTP headers and related web-security settings.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual CEH questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items. EC-Council's CEH handbook bans brain dump material and lets EC-Council bar you from future exams and revoke your certification. A real practice test explains why each answer is right; a dump only lists answers.

How to use CEH practice tests

  • Take a free test cold first. Start with EC-Council's 50-question assessment or Training Camp's free test before heavy study, and read the explanations for the questions you got right as well as wrong.
  • Back every miss with a lab. Many questions ask which tool, command or step comes next in an attack. After a miss, run the tool in EC-Council's iLabs, TryHackMe or your own lab rather than rereading the definition.
  • Log misses by domain. Write each miss against its blueprint domain and revisit the heavy ones first, especially network and perimeter hacking at 24%.
  • Do full timed exams late. In the last week or two, sit Boson's 125-question exams under timing. Candidates who passed used them to get used to the confusing wording, not to memorise answers.
  • Do not memorise answers. Several candidates say the real questions are worded differently from practice banks. Learn why the right answer is right and why the others fail.

CEH practice test FAQ

Are there free CEH practice tests?

Yes. EC-Council offers a free 50-question CEH assessment and Training Camp offers a free 50-question test with a 25-question quick option. Both ask for contact details first.

Does EC-Council sell an official CEH practice test?

Yes. CEH Exam Prep costs $149 for one year and has a simulated mode and a progressive mode. EC-Council's official training also includes practice test banks by domain.

Are CEH practice tests harder than the real exam?

Reports differ. One 2026 passer found Boson harder and broader than the exam, while another failed after repeating Boson's exams and said the real questions did not match. Several candidates say the real scenarios are wordier than practice questions.

How many CEH practice tests should I take?

There is no official number. Candidates in Reddit threads usually combine a publisher's timed exams, such as Boson's three, with a larger bank, and review every miss rather than retaking exams.
