How ISC2 certifications work
- Endorsement
- After passing, have your experience endorsed by an ISC2 member or ISC2 itself within nine months. CC needs no endorsement.
- Associate route
- Pass before meeting the experience requirement and apply for Associate of ISC2 status while you earn it.
- Renewal
- Earn each certification's CPE credits over 3 years and pay one annual fee for all your certifications ($135, or $50 if you hold only CC). CISSP requires 120 CPE credits.
- Delivery
- Pearson VUE test centres.
Choosing the right ISC2 certification
Where to start
- Cybersecurity entry point: ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity. ISC2's entry-level exam on security principles, access control, networking and incident response, with no experience requirement. ISC2's certification roadmap points to SSCP as the next step.
- Hands-on security operations: SSCP. Covers operational security for practitioners in security, systems or network administration; ISC2 requires one year of experience. It counts as one year of the experience CISSP requires.
- Senior security roles: CISSP. For managers, architects and consultants with five years of paid security experience. If you pass before meeting that requirement, you can become an Associate of ISC2 while you earn it, and the ISSAP, ISSEP and ISSMP concentrations build on it.
- Cloud security: ISC2 CCSP. Covers cloud architecture, data protection, operations and compliance across providers. An active CISSP covers the entire CCSP experience requirement.
- Risk and compliance: ISC2 CGRC. Built around the NIST Risk Management Framework, for professionals who authorize, assess and maintain information systems. ISC2 requires two years of experience.
