3–5 years on a security team
RecommendedExperience on a CERT, CSIRT, SOC or other cybersecurity team.

Validates knowledge of identifying, detecting, responding to and recovering from cybersecurity threats using the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
CyberSec First Responder (CFR) is CertNexus's certification for threat detection and incident response. Its exam follows the five NIST Cybersecurity Framework functions, but it is less known than CompTIA CySA+, so it matters most when an employer or program names it.
Most hiring managers recognize CompTIA, ISC2 and SANS, and a CFR holder says they rarely saw it in job requirements. Some security engineer postings do list it.
The same CFR holder described the course as a decent introduction to incident response, while the exam still rewards memorization for multiple choice.
Career-roadmap threads list CFR beside CySA+ and Blue Team Level 1 as defensive options after Security+. When choosing one for a resume, commenters pick CySA+ for recognition.
CFR is valid for 3 years from the day you pass.
Renew with continuing education credits and the program fee, or by passing the current CFR exam before your certification expires.
CertNexus continuing education program ↗The closest and much better-known alternative for SOC and incident response analysts.
A deeper incident handling certification, at a much higher price.
Better fit if your work is intrusion detection and traffic analysis.
It is worth it when an employer, contract or training program asks for it, or when training is already paid for. For general resume value, CompTIA CySA+ is recognized much more widely.
It has 80 multiple-choice and multiple-response questions in 120 minutes, with a 70% or 73% pass mark depending on the exam form. Expect questions about tools and command output.
The CFR-410 voucher costs $367.50 in the CertNexus store and includes one free retake.
Yes, after three years. Renew with 90 continuing education credits and a $150 fee, or by passing the current exam again.
