CyberSec First Responder (CFR) (CFR-410) Courses

Validates knowledge of identifying, detecting, responding to and recovering from cybersecurity threats using the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.

A good CFR-410 course covers the five NIST Cybersecurity Framework functions and prepares you for questions on logs, tools and command output. We compared the main options on exam coverage, hands-on labs, format and price.

Most people should start with CertNexus's Coursera specialization, which is the official course at a fraction of the live-class price. Add the study guide if you learn from books, or uCertify for labs and practice questions. Choose Learning Tree or New Horizons when your employer pays for a live class with the voucher.

How to choose a CFR course

  • Look for the CFR-410 courseware. The Coursera specialization, both live classes and the CertNexus study guide all teach the official CFR-410 material, so the choice is mainly format and price.
  • Get hands-on practice. The exam asks about tools and command output. uCertify includes 42 browser-based labs, and the Coursera specialization sells its LogicalLABS separately.
  • Pay for a live class only if someone else does. Learning Tree ($3,350) and New Horizons ($3,495) include the exam voucher, which costs $367.50 on its own. Self-paid candidates save thousands with Coursera or the study guide.
  • Match your experience. CertNexus recommends 3 to 5 years on a security team. Plan for about 40 hours of preparation if you work in security operations, and more if incident response is new.
