Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Practice Tests

Validates knowledge of financial planning, performance and cost management, internal controls, corporate finance, investment decisions and professional ethics.

Each CMA part is a 4-hour exam: 100 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours, then two case-based questions in 1 hour, which from the September/October 2026 window replace the old essays. We compared the main options on question volume, difficulty and price.

Start with IMA's free quiz and test simulation, then use UWorld or HOCK for volume and add Gleim when you want harder questions.

CMA Practice Quiz and Test Simulation

Ten random multiple-choice questions from IMA's retired exam bank, plus a Prometric test simulation of the exam screens. The quiz asks for your name and email before you start.

Great fit if you want to see real exam wording and the Prometric interface before paying for anything.

Poor fit if you need a bank to drill; use UWorld or HOCK for volume.

Largest question bank

UWorld CMA QBank

The question bank sold on its own for both parts, with detailed explanations and per-lesson tracking. Candidates value the volume, though some questions repeat and reports on difficulty are mixed.

Great fit if you already have study material and want the largest multiple-choice bank at a low price.

Poor fit if you need lectures to learn the content, or a long study window; the cheapest plan lasts 90 days and the full course costs far more.

Explanations that teach

HOCK CMA Exam Membership

A monthly membership with a test bank in an exam-style interface, three mock exams per part, a guided study path and the HOCK textbook and videos. Candidates praise its explanations and support.

Great fit if you want to pay month to month and get explanations that teach, with mocks that match the Prometric layout.

Poor fit if you want to pay once for a long window; a long study plan adds up fast, so compare UWorld's bank or Gleim.

Tough final check

Gleim CMA Mega Test Bank

Gleim's question bank without the video course, with 165+ case-based questions, full-length practice exams and condensed digital books. Candidates say its questions pile on detail and rate it on par with or slightly harder than the real exam.

Great fit if you want a deliberately tough bank and plenty of case-based practice for the new format.

Poor fit if you want an easy way in or a low price; UWorld's bank costs a fraction of this.

Cheap long access

CMA Test Bank Combo (Parts 1 and 2)

A mid-priced bank with a timed mock mode that mimics the real exam layout and 27 case-based questions. Two years of access is the longest of the standalone banks.

Great fit if you want a low-cost bank with a long access window to pair with a course or your own notes.

Poor fit if you want the biggest bank or independent candidate reviews; UWorld and HOCK have far more candidate feedback.

Course with practice

Becker CMA Review (Advantage)

Becker sells practice only inside its full course, with simulated exams, case-based questions and unlimited personalised practice tests on Advantage. Candidates disagree on whether its multiple choice matches or undershoots the real exam.

Great fit if you want one structured course with lectures and practice in the same place.

Poor fit if you only want questions; it is sold only as a course, so UWorld's bank or HOCK cost much less.

What to look for in a CMA practice test

  • Case-based questions, not essays. From the September/October 2026 window, English-language exams outside China, Japan and Taiwan replace essays with two case-based questions per part: a case of about 250 words, then tasks such as calculations, fill in the blank, drag and drop and select from a list. Prefer banks that list case-based questions and treat essay sets as old.
  • A large multiple-choice bank first. Each part has 100 multiple-choice questions, and you must answer at least half correctly to reach the case-based section. Candidates in 2026 say the multiple-choice questions are the harder half, so most of your questions should be multiple choice.
  • Explanations that show the working. Many CMA questions are multi-step calculations. Pick a bank that walks through the arithmetic and why each wrong option is wrong, and that lets you filter by section (A to F) so you can repair weak topics.
  • Cost per part and access period. You sit Part 1 and Part 2 separately, often months apart. Check whether a price covers both parts and how long access lasts: UWorld's cheapest plan is 90 days, Gleim's bank 18 months, CMA Exam Academy 2 years, and HOCK is month to month.
  • Difficulty varies by bank. Candidates call Gleim on par with or slightly harder than the exam, reports on UWorld and HOCK are mixed, and Becker's multiple choice is described as closer to or easier than the real thing. Judge progress by your trend inside one product, not by comparing scores across banks.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual CMA questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items, not practice. Use products that write their own questions and explain every answer, so you learn the reasoning the exam tests.

How to use CMA practice tests

  • Start with IMA's free quiz and test simulation. Ten real questions and the Prometric screens show the wording and the tools you get on exam day, including the on-screen calculator, before you spend anything.
  • Drill multiple choice by section. Work Part 1 or Part 2 one section at a time (for example cost management or capital investment) until you are accurate and fast. Review every explanation, including the ones you got right by luck.
  • Add case-based questions once the sections are solid. A 2026 Part 1 taker found the case-based section easier than multiple choice but noted you type numerical answers with no options to check against. Practise that, and the drag-and-drop and select-from-a-list tasks.
  • Run timed full mocks near the end. A part is three hours of multiple choice, then one hour of case-based questions, and you cannot go back to the multiple-choice section. One candidate finished with 18 minutes left and about 30 flagged questions, so rehearse your pacing.
  • Do not memorise repeated mocks. HOCK says a mock repeats the same questions each time you take it. Once you know the answers it stops measuring you, so move to fresh questions.

CMA practice test FAQ

Are there free CMA practice questions?

Yes. IMA offers a free 10-question quiz of real exam questions and a Prometric test simulation. UWorld gives 11 free sample questions per part and a 7-day free trial, and CMA Exam Academy offers a free practice test PDF.

Does the CMA exam still have essays?

No, not in most of the world. Case-based questions replaced essays from the September/October 2026 window everywhere except China, Japan and Taiwan, and the content outline did not change. Essay sets still sold by some providers are for the old format.

Are CMA practice questions harder than the real exam?

It depends on the bank. Candidates rate Gleim as on par with or slightly harder than the exam, give mixed reports on UWorld and HOCK, and usually describe the case-based questions as the easier half of the real exam. Compare your trend within one product.

What does a CMA exam part look like?

Each part has 100 multiple-choice questions and two case-based questions in four hours, and you need at least 50% of the multiple choice correct to reach the case-based section. IMA reports scores on a 0 to 500 scale with 360 needed to pass, which is not a percentage.
