CompTIA Network+ (N10-009) Practice Tests

Validates knowledge of networking concepts, implementation, operations, security and troubleshooting for managing and supporting modern networks.

Network+ N10-009 is up to 90 questions in 90 minutes: scenario-style multiple choice plus a handful of performance-based questions (PBQs), so good practice has to cover both. We compared the main options on exam-style wording, PBQ coverage and price.

Start with CompTIA's free 10-question sample and ExamCompass's free tests to find your weak domains. Then add full-length timed exams from Dion or TIA, plus a hands-on PBQ source, before you book.

CompTIA Network+ Practice Test (V9)

CompTIA's own sample set for the current exam, with an answer key at the end. The quickest way to see how CompTIA words a question.

Great fit if you want a first look at official question style before paying for anything.

Poor fit if you need explanations or a full-length run; move on to ExamCompass or Dion.

Free topic drills

ExamCompass Network+ Practice Tests (N10-009)

Short online tests written to the N10-009 objectives, with a topic quiz for most objectives. The score report marks missed answers but has no written explanations.

Great fit if you want unlimited free drills by topic, such as ports, acronyms and subnetting.

Poor fit if you want explanations or timed 90-question exams; choose Dion or Boson.

Timed full exams

CompTIA Network+ (N10-009) 6 Practice Exams, Set 1

The most-used third-party set for Network+. Each exam runs in timed or untimed mode, explains every answer, and ends with a score report by domain.

Great fit if you want several cheap full-length exams and are happy to train on harder, wordier questions.

Poor fit if you need interactive PBQ practice; add the TIA set below or Dion's PBQ pack.

PBQ practice

CompTIA Network+ N10-009 Practice Exams

A second source of exam-length tests that includes drag-and-drop and performance-based tasks. Candidates describe it as closer to the real multiple-choice level than Dion, and often use it alongside Dion.

Great fit if you want PBQ-style practice and a second set of fresh full-length exams.

Poor fit if you want the hardest questions you can find; Dion runs tougher.

Realistic final check

ExSim-Max for CompTIA Network+ N10-009

A polished exam simulator with explanations that cite references and score reports that point to weak topics. Candidates who used both Boson and Dion found Boson closer to the real exam and Dion cheaper with more questions.

Great fit if you want a realistic final check and explanations for right and wrong answers.

Poor fit if you need many exams for the money; Dion gives 12 for much less.

Study on your phone

Pocket Prep IT and Cybersecurity: CompTIA Network+

Short quiz sessions with an explanation for every question and a running score for each domain. Good for spare minutes, less so for rehearsing a 90-minute sitting.

Great fit if you study in short sessions on your phone and want weak-domain tracking.

Poor fit if you want a one-time purchase; Dion and TIA cost less overall.

Objective drills

CompTIA CertMaster Practice for Network+ (N10-009)

CompTIA's official practice tool, built around the exam objectives with a mastery score for each. Candidates generally find the wording tricky and the practice more useful for finding gaps than for simulating test day.

Great fit if you already have it in a CompTIA bundle or want official objective-by-objective practice.

Poor fit if you are buying one practice product on a budget; Dion or TIA gives more full exams for far less.

What to look for in a Network+ practice test

  • Make sure it says N10-009. N10-009 (V9) is the only current Network+ exam, live since June 2024, and CompTIA has announced no successor. Look for N10-009 in the title; some older listings still carry N10-008 content.
  • Look for PBQ practice separately. The exam has up to 90 questions in 90 minutes, and candidates commonly report around six PBQs, shown first. Most question banks are multiple choice only, so look for drag-and-drop or simulation tasks, or add a PBQ pack.
  • Prefer explanations that cover the wrong answers. Network+ questions often ask for the BEST or FIRST step, so you learn most from why the other options fail. CompTIA's free test and ExamCompass show answers without explanations, while Dion, TIA, Boson and Pocket Prep explain.
  • Expect third-party wording to differ from CompTIA's. Only CompTIA's own questions are official, and its free sample is just 10. Candidates say Dion's questions are wordier and harder than the real exam, and some stray outside the objectives; if a question looks off-topic, compare it with the objectives.
  • Have enough fresh full-length exams. Dion's two sets give 12 exams, TIA's 6 and Boson's 3, so combining two sources keeps late-stage practice unseen. A single three-exam product runs out quickly.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual N10-009 questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items. CompTIA's candidate agreement counts using brain dumps as misconduct and lets CompTIA revoke every CompTIA certification you hold. A real practice test explains why each answer is right; a dump only lists answers.

How to use Network+ practice tests

  • Start with a short diagnostic. Take CompTIA's 10 questions or one ExamCompass test early, and note which of the five domains you miss: concepts, implementation, operations, security or troubleshooting.
  • Read the explanation for every miss and every guess. A right answer you guessed is still a gap. Write down why the correct option wins and why your choice lost.
  • Track weak areas by domain, then fix them with labs. Drill the domain topics you miss most, and practise the command-line output PBQs lean on: ping, ipconfig, arp, tracert and switch show commands. Cisco Packet Tracer is free.
  • Save timed full runs for the last stretch. Do 90 questions in 90 minutes in exam mode, flag PBQs, and budget time for them at the end as most candidates do. Many who passed found Dion harder than the real test, so do not read one low score as a verdict.
  • Avoid memorising repeats. Retaking the same exam tests recall, not understanding. Switch sources for later runs, and use ExamCompass or Pocket Prep topic quizzes for repeat drilling.

Network+ practice test FAQ

Are there free Network+ practice tests?

Yes. CompTIA publishes a free 10-question N10-009 practice test, ExamCompass has 23 free practice tests plus topic quizzes, and Professor Messer posts free pop quiz questions. None replaces a full-length timed exam with explanations.

Are Jason Dion's Network+ practice exams harder than the real exam?

Most candidates who used them say yes: the questions are wordier and some go beyond the objectives. That makes them good practice for reading carefully, but a lower score than you hoped is not a reason to delay.

How many Network+ practice exams should I take?

There is no official number. Take a diagnostic first, then do full-length timed exams from at least two sources until your results hold steady, and always review the wrong answers.

Do Network+ practice tests include PBQs?

Most are multiple choice only. TIA's exams include drag-and-drop and PBQ-style tasks, Dion sells a separate 50-question PBQ pack, and Professor Messer's CertMaster Practice bundle has one timed PBQ test.
