What to look for in a Tech+ practice test

  • Make sure it says FC0-U71, not FC0-U61. Tech+ FC0-U71 replaced IT Fundamentals+ (ITF+, FC0-U61) in July 2024. Many Udemy listings still carry ITF+ or mislabelled titles, so look for FC0-U71 and the six domains: concepts, infrastructure, applications and software, software development, data and databases, and security.
  • Expect multiple choice only. The exam has up to 70 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes and no performance-based questions, so you do not need simulation practice. Look for timed 60-minute exams and a score report by domain.
  • Choose sets with an explanation for every answer. Tech+ questions often ask for the best answer among plausible options, so you learn most from why the others fail. CompTIA's free sample shows an answer key only; Dion, Pocket Prep and MeasureUp explain each answer.
  • Pick established makers over cheap bulk listings. Udemy lists dozens of Tech+ sets with 1,000+ questions, many with few or no ratings. Dion's set is the best known, and Pocket Prep, MeasureUp and CompTIA publish their own question counts and exam codes.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual Tech+ questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items. CompTIA's candidate agreement counts using brain dumps as misconduct and lets CompTIA revoke every CompTIA certification you hold. A real practice test explains why each answer is right; a dump only lists answers.

How to use Tech+ practice tests

  • Start with a short diagnostic. Take CompTIA's 10 questions or one Pocket Prep quiz early and note which of the six domains you miss. Infrastructure is the biggest at 24% of the exam.
  • Read the explanation for every miss and every guess. A right answer you guessed is still a gap. Learn why the correct option wins, especially on units, binary and hex, ports and storage types.
  • Fix weak domains, then go timed. Drill the domains you miss most in short quizzes, then take full 60-minute runs in the last week. Candidates describe the real questions as fairly basic but sometimes oddly worded, so answer from CompTIA's definitions, not real-world habit.
  • Avoid memorising repeats. Retaking the same exam tests recall, not understanding. Switch to a different set for later runs.

Tech+ practice test FAQ

Are there free Tech+ practice tests?

Yes. CompTIA publishes a free 10-question FC0-U71 practice test with an answer key, and Pocket Prep gives 30 free questions. Neither replaces a full timed exam with explanations.

Does the Tech+ exam have performance-based questions?

No. CompTIA lists up to 70 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, and candidates report no PBQs. Practice with multiple-choice sets only.

How many Tech+ practice exams should I take?

There is no official number. Take a short diagnostic first, then two or three full timed exams, reviewing every wrong answer. Passing is 650 out of 900, but do not treat a practice percentage as a pass rule.

Is Tech+ the same as ITF+, and do ITF+ practice tests still work?

Tech+ replaced ITF+ in July 2024 and adds software development, data and AI topics. Older FC0-U61 practice tests miss part of the current exam, so choose sets labelled FC0-U71.
