Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) Practice Tests

Validates knowledge of IT risk governance, risk assessment, risk response and reporting, and technology controls.

CRISC is 150 multiple-choice questions in four hours. It puts you in the risk owner's seat: the best answer ties to the business objective. We compared the main options on question volume, full-length tests and price.

Most people should start with ISACA's free 10-question quiz. Use ISACA's QAE database as your main bank, then add Hemang Doshi's Udemy tests for extra full-length runs.

Free CRISC Practice Quiz

Ten questions in ISACA's own style, each with an explanation of why the best answer fits and why the others do not. You submit a short contact form to see your results.

Great fit if you want a free look at how ISACA frames risk questions before paying for a bank.

Poor fit if you need volume or a timed run; use the QAE database.

Official question bank

CRISC Questions, Answers & Explanations Database

ISACA's own bank (version 8.1) explains every answer choice, builds sessions by domain and subcategory, and tracks results by domain. It includes three full-length timed practice exams, flashcards and a study planner.

Great fit if you want the closest thing to ISACA's wording and a bank you can work through domain by domain.

Poor fit if you want a cheaper second bank for fresh questions; see Doshi's tests.

Extra full-length tests

Practice Tests to prepare for CRISC Exam (Updated 2026)

Five 150-question tests with explanations and unlimited attempts, organised by the four current CRISC domains. Candidates use them for extra full-length runs, and one finds the questions similar to the QAE.

Great fit if you have worked through the QAE and want more full-length tests at a low price.

Poor fit if you want ISACA's exact wording; one candidate saw many cryptography questions that ISACA's own material never showed.

Study on your phone

ISACA CRISC Question Bank

A phone-friendly bank of 600 questions with subject quizzes and a premium mock exam, built around the four current domains. It is a lighter supplement to the QAE.

Great fit if you study in short sessions on your phone and want a low-cost monthly bank.

Poor fit if you want ISACA's own wording; use the QAE database.

What to look for in a CRISC practice test

  • Built for the November 2025 outline. The exam has four domains weighted Governance 26%, Risk Assessment 22%, Risk Response and Reporting 32% and Technology and Security 20%. ISACA's QAE is version 8.1 for this outline; one candidate who had studied the older 7th-edition manual scored only 76 on its practice test.
  • Risk-owner reasoning. Questions ask who owns the risk and who owns the control, and which response fits the business objective. Look for explanations that say why the other options fail in business terms, not only that the key is correct.
  • Explanations for every option. Candidates who passed credit reading every QAE explanation, because the real questions were not worded the same. Doshi's tests also explain each question.
  • Few banks, so check volume. Only three sources are widely used: the QAE (983 questions), Doshi's five tests (750) and Pocket Prep (600). The QAE has three full-length timed exams, Doshi's set has five, and Pocket Prep offers a premium mock exam mode.
  • Official wording first. A candidate who used a book's TotalTester exams said they gave a false sense of confidence with scores in the high 90s. Treat third-party scores as secondary to your QAE results.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual CRISC questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items. ISACA's terms ban receiving or possessing exam content before the exam and let ISACA invalidate scores and revoke your certifications. A real practice test explains why each answer is right; a dump only lists answers.

How to use CRISC practice tests

  • Start with the free quiz and a domain diagnostic. Take ISACA's 10 questions, then one QAE set per domain to see which domain is lowest before you read more.
  • Review every explanation, including the ones you got right. Candidates who passed stress why the other options are wrong. For each miss, note whether you confused the risk owner, the control owner or the response.
  • Repeat the hard questions. One passer focused on difficult and expert questions, repeating them three or four times, and ran the easy and moderate ones once or twice.
  • Use a second source for fresh questions. One candidate worried about memorising reset the QAE exams after two weeks and scored the same, then used Doshi's tests as a second check. A different bank separates knowledge from recall.
  • Time one full run late. The exam is four hours. Do one timed run in the final week, then spend the remaining days on your lowest domain rather than re-sitting tests you have seen.

CRISC practice test FAQ

Are there free CRISC practice tests?

ISACA offers a free 10-question quiz with explanations; you submit a short form to see your results. Pocket Prep lets you try 30 questions free. There is no larger free ISACA bank, and free lists elsewhere vary widely in quality.

Is the CRISC QAE database worth it?

Candidates name it as the main bank and the best preparation for ISACA's phrasing, though the real questions are worded differently, so reading the explanations matters more than the scores. It costs $399 for non-members and $299 for members for six months.

Can I pass CRISC without the QAE?

In principle yes, since ISACA does not require it, but r/CRISC pass reports almost all name the QAE as the main bank. On a tight budget, combine the free quiz, Pocket Prep's 30 free questions and Doshi's $20 tests, and expect a looser match to ISACA's wording.

How many CRISC practice exams should I take?

ISACA sets no number. The QAE includes three timed exams; adding one or two from Doshi's set gives fresh full-length practice before you book.
