Certified Six Sigma Yellow Belt (CSSYB) Practice Tests

Validates foundational knowledge of Six Sigma fundamentals, the DMAIC phases, basic quality tools and supporting improvement projects.

CSSYB is a 90-question, open-book exam (80 scored) in 2 hours 18 minutes, built around DMAIC, lean and basic quality-tool scenarios rather than heavy statistics. We compared the main options on question style, official coverage and price.

Most people should start with Quality Gurus' free 50 questions. Work the ASQ Study Guide's 300 questions, then use ASQ's question bank for timed practice runs.

What to look for in a CSSYB practice test

  • Built for the 2022 Body of Knowledge. The exam has 80 scored questions across five sections: Six Sigma fundamentals 20, Define 14, Measure 15, Analyze 17 and Improve and Control 14. Look for banks that cover all five and say so.
  • Scenario questions, not just definitions. The exam asks you to pick the right DMAIC step, lean concept or basic quality tool for a workplace situation. Prefer sets with scenario items and explanations that name the tool and why the others fit less well.
  • Solutions that point back to the BoK. Each ASQ Study Guide solution names its Body of Knowledge section, which makes it easy to reread a weak topic in your handbook before the open-book exam.
  • Volume that suits an easier exam. At 90 questions in 2 hours 18 minutes this is the shortest ASQ belt exam. The Study Guide's 300 questions plus one or two timed sets from ASQ or Quality Gurus is plenty for most people.
  • Official wording first. Candidates advise starting with the study guide because its questions show how ASQ words items. Use cheaper third-party sets for extra timed runs.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual CSSYB questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items. ASQ's testing agreement bans using leaked exam material and lets ASQ cancel scores and revoke your certifications. A real practice test explains why each answer is right; a dump only lists answers.

How to use CSSYB practice tests

  • Start with a short diagnostic. Take a free 25-question set and note which of the five sections you miss most before you open the handbook.
  • Work the study guide by section. Do each of the five sections, read the solution and BoK reference for every miss, and tab those pages in the handbook you will bring to the exam.
  • Build and use your reference. The exam is open book with bound references only. Tab your handbook or notes now and use them in practice so finding an answer feels routine.
  • Run one or two timed sets late. Take a full 80-question set within about two hours. Candidates describe the exam as mostly fundamentals, so aim to finish with time to review flagged items.
  • Do not memorise repeats. ASQ allows unlimited retakes for 365 days, but a set you remember no longer measures anything. Use a randomised mock for fresh runs.

CSSYB practice test FAQ

Are there free CSSYB practice tests?

ASQ does not publish a free sample exam; its question bank and study guide are paid. Quality Gurus gives 50 free exam-style questions (a 25-question review set and a 25-question, 60-minute mock) with explanations and no signup.

How hard is the CSSYB exam?

Candidates describe it as mostly Six Sigma fundamentals and basic lean and quality tools, without the statistics load of the Green or Black Belt exams. It is open book, which helps if your reference is tabbed.

How many CSSYB practice exams should I take?

The Study Guide's 300 questions plus one or two full 80-question timed runs on questions you have not seen is a sensible target. ASQ's bank has three sets and Quality Gurus draws a fresh mock each attempt.

Can I use notes and books in the CSSYB exam?

Yes. The exam is open book, but references and notes must be bound (stitched, glued, ring or spiral binders) and stay bound. Build and tab your reference before you start timed practice.
