A good GH-900 course covers GitHub the product, not just Git: plans, roles, Copilot, Actions, security and collaboration. We compared the options on exam topic coverage, hands-on practice and price.

Most people should work through both free Microsoft Learn paths in order. Part 1 covers Git, GitHub, Copilot and Projects; Part 2 adds open source, security, administration and pull requests. Add Phillip Burton's Udemy course if you prefer video.

How to choose a GitHub Foundations course

  • Do both Learn paths. Part 1 and Part 2 together cover the topics in the official GH-900 study guide. Part 1 on its own skips deep security and administration.
  • Learn the product, not just Git. GH-900 asks about plans, roles, permissions and where features live, often as select-all questions. Click through GitHub as you study.
  • Start with the practice assessment. Take Microsoft's free GH-900 practice assessment first to see which domains need work.
  • Pay only for what free cannot do. The official paths cover the exam. Buy video teaching or extra practice questions only if you want them.
