ITIL Foundation Courses

Validates foundational knowledge of ITIL concepts, the four dimensions, guiding principles, management practices and continual improvement.

A good ITIL Foundation course teaches the Version 5 terms and practices in plain language and prepares you for a 40-question, 60-minute exam. We compared the main options on what each includes, whether the exam voucher is bundled, and price.

Most people should start with Dion Training's course and voucher, which adds video lessons and 240+ practice questions to the exam for $699. Choose PeopleCert's $690 exam bundle if you can learn from the official eBook alone, and eLearning+ when your employer pays and you want the official course with a free retake.

How to choose a ITIL Foundation course

  • Buy Version 5 material. ITIL 5 Foundation is the current exam. ITIL 4 Foundation is still sold until PeopleCert retires it, planned for 31 December 2027, and every course here covers Version 5.
  • Check that the voucher is included. All three options include an exam voucher. Dion also sells the voucher alone from $599, so its course adds lessons and practice questions for about $100.
  • Study the terminology. Questions are mostly terminology and light application of the framework, and you need 65% (26 of 40) to pass. A course or eBook that defines each term clearly matters more than depth.
  • Rehearse the timed exam. The exam lasts 60 minutes and is not open book. Add at least one full mock exam to whichever course you pick.

Recommended ITIL Foundation course combinations

  • Learning by video: Dion Training's course and voucher ($699), then Andrew Ramdayal's ITIL Foundation Version 5, 6 Practice ($20 on Udemy) for more timed exams.
  • Employer pays: PeopleCert's eLearning+ ($1,338), which includes the Official Mock Exam and a free retake.
