Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Associate (1Z0-1072-26) Exam Guide

Validates knowledge of designing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure solutions across identity and access management, networking, compute and storage.

The exam tests whether you can design OCI solutions for identity, networking, compute and storage. Work through the free official learning path, build the same components in a free OCI account, and use practice questions to get used to Oracle's long scenario wording.

Syllabus

These are areas taught in the official course, and Networking has the most content.

Identity and access management
  • Identity domains: Create identity domains, users and groups, and understand the default domain and administrator role.
  • Policies and compartments: Write policies, use compartments, quotas, policy inheritance and conditional policies.
  • Advanced access: Use tag-based access control, network sources and dynamic groups.

Example scenario: Instances in one compartment need to read objects from a bucket without storing user credentials. How would you grant that access?

Networking
  • Virtual cloud networks: Plan VCNs, subnets, route tables, security lists, network security groups and gateways.
  • Connectivity: Connect networks with peering, dynamic routing gateways, VPN and FastConnect.
  • IP management: Use reserved public IPs, public IP pools and bring-your-own IP.
  • Load balancing and DNS: Choose load balancers and policies, and configure public and private DNS zones and traffic management.

Example scenario: Private instances need software updates from the internet but must not accept inbound connections. Which gateway would you use?

Compute
  • Shapes and images: Choose VM, bare metal, GPU and dedicated host options, with platform or custom images.
  • Capacity types: Use preemptible instances, capacity reservations and dedicated VM hosts.
  • Scaling and operations: Use burstable instances, vertical scaling and autoscaling, and manage instances with OS Management Hub.

Example scenario: A batch job can be interrupted and restarted at any time. Which capacity type could reduce its cost?

Storage
  • Object Storage: Use storage tiers, auto-tiering, lifecycle rules, versioning, retention rules, replication and pre-authenticated requests.
  • Block Storage: Choose volume performance, and use backups, clones, volume groups and replication.
  • File Storage: Configure file systems, NFS export options and file system paths.

Example scenario: Log files must be kept for seven years but are rarely read after 30 days. How would you keep storage costs down?

Question types

Multiple choice. Choose the best answer from the options, or the stated number of answers when a question asks for more than one.

CertUp example

Instances in a private subnet need to download operating system updates from the internet but must not accept inbound connections. Which gateway should you add to the VCN?

  1. NAT gateway
  2. Internet gateway
  3. Dynamic routing gateway
  4. Service gateway
Show answer

A. A NAT gateway lets private instances start outbound connections without exposing them to inbound traffic. An internet gateway would also allow inbound access to public IPs.

Eligibility and booking

Sign in to Oracle MyLearn with a free Oracle account, enrol in the learning path and choose Get Started on the 1Z0-1072-26 exam to schedule it.

Make a study plan

Watch the official course with an OCI account open, repeat the demos yourself, then use the practice exam to find gaps.

Most candidates spend 30–60 hours. Plan for the low end if you already work in OCI; add time for networking and IAM if OCI is new to you.

Learn the core concepts

The official learning path is free and built for the current exam. Pair it with a free OCI account so you can repeat the demos.

Build it, then break it. After each networking module, change a route table or security rule in your own VCN and work out why traffic stops. Delete paid resources when you finish.

Practice with mock exams

Start with the official practice exam in the learning path. Add an independent question set if you want more scenario practice, and check every explanation against the course or OCI documentation.

Are you ready?

  • You can design a VCN with public and private subnets and pick the right gateways
  • You can write and read IAM policies for groups and dynamic groups
  • You can choose between Object, Block and File Storage for a scenario
  • You pass the official practice exam and can explain each wrong answer

Prepare for exam day

You schedule the exam from the learning path and take it online with a proctor.

  • Make sure the name on your Oracle account matches your photo ID exactly.
  • Clear your desk and remove extra devices before check-in.
  • Test from a private room with a working webcam.
  • Plan for 90 minutes. The questions are long, so read each scenario carefully.

You cannot retake a passed exam. After a failed attempt, schedule a new attempt from MyLearn.
