Professional Scrum Product Owner I (PSPO I) Courses

Validates foundational knowledge of Scrum, Product Owner accountabilities, and managing product value and the Product Backlog.

A good PSPO I course teaches how a Product Owner manages value and the Product Backlog, using the language of the 2020 Scrum Guide that the 80-question test follows. We compared the main options on format, what they include and price.

Most people should read the free Scrum Guide, then take Scrum.org's $279 self-paced course, which includes a PSPO I attempt. Choose the two-day live class when your employer pays or you want to work through cases with a trainer and a group.

Scrum Guide

The official definition of Scrum by its creators, in under 13 pages. PSPO I questions are written against its wording, so read it first and return to it after every wrong practice answer.

Great fit if you are starting your preparation; everyone needs it

Poor fit if you want worked Product Owner examples; add the self-paced course

How to choose a PSPO I course

  • Read the 2020 Scrum Guide first. PSPO I questions are written against its wording, and it is under 13 pages. Every other option here builds on it.
  • Check what the price includes. The password alone costs $200. Scrum.org's self-paced course ($279) and live class both include one PSPO I attempt.
  • Decide whether you need a course. No course is required, but Scrum.org strongly recommends its own. Live classes suit group discussion; the self-paced course suits studying alone.
  • Practise Product Owner questions. The test is 80 questions in 60 minutes and needs 85% to pass. Use practice assessments to find what you misunderstood, then return to the Guide.

Recommended PSPO I course combinations

  • Lowest cost: The free Scrum Guide, Scrum.org's Product Owner Open and Scrum Open, and TheScrumMaster.co.uk's free practice assessment, then the $200 PSPO I password.
  • Official course: Scrum.org's self-paced course ($279, attempt included), then Management Plaza's PSPO I Exam Simulator ($44) for tougher questions.
  • Employer pays: The two-day live class (set by the trainer, for example $995), which includes an attempt, then TheScrumMaster.co.uk's Ultimate practice assessment ($20).
  • Most practice questions: The Scrum Guide and the free Opens, then Ludovic Julien's 800-question mock exams ($80) before you book.
