Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) Practice Tests

Validates knowledge of IT auditing, covering audit processes, IT governance, systems development, operations, resilience and information asset protection.

CISA is 150 multiple-choice questions in four hours, many asking for the FIRST, BEST or MOST important action from an auditor's point of view. We compared the main options on question style, official coverage, volume and price.

Start with ISACA's free 10-question quiz, use ISACA's QAE database as your main bank, then add Hemang Doshi's Udemy tests for extra full-length practice in different wording.

Free CISA Practice Quiz

Ten questions in ISACA's own style, each with an explanation of why the best answer fits and why the others do not. You submit a short contact form to see your results.

Great fit if you want a free look at ISACA's wording before paying for a question bank.

Poor fit if you need volume or a timed run; use the QAE database.

Official question bank

CISA Questions, Answers & Explanations Database

ISACA's own bank explains every answer choice, lets you build sessions by domain and subcategory, and tracks results by domain. It includes three full-length timed practice exams, flashcards and a study planner.

Great fit if you want the closest thing to ISACA's wording and a bank you can work through domain by domain.

Poor fit if you want a cheaper second bank for fresh questions; see Doshi's tests.

Extra full-length tests

Practice Tests to prepare for CISA Exam (Updated 2026)

Five 150-question tests with explanations. Candidates use them for extra full-length runs after the QAE, but several score noticeably lower here than on the QAE and call some wording awkward.

Great fit if you have worked through the QAE and want more full-length tests at a low price.

Poor fit if you want ISACA's phrasing; candidates say the QAE matches the exam better.

Study on your phone

ISACA CISA Question Bank

A phone-friendly bank of 1,200 questions with subject quizzes and a premium mock exam. One candidate reports passing CISA on it alone; the QAE remains the usual main bank.

Great fit if you study in short sessions on your phone and want a low-cost monthly bank.

Poor fit if you want ISACA's own wording; use the QAE database.

Practice test book

CISA Certified Information Systems Auditor Practice Tests

A 2025 practice book with 700+ questions by domain and two full-length 150-question exams. Answer explanations are brief.

Great fit if you prefer a book, or want a different publisher's questions after the QAE.

Poor fit if you want detailed rationale for every option; the QAE explains each choice.

Single timed exam

CISA Practice Test

One 150-question exam split across the five domains in the real proportions, with a timed certification mode and a customizable practice mode.

Great fit if you want a single extra timed run in the real domain mix.

Poor fit if you want volume; it is one exam, so use the QAE or Pocket Prep.

What to look for in a CISA practice test

  • Built for the August 2024 outline. The exam has five domains weighted 18%, 18%, 12%, 26% and 26%. ISACA overhauled the QAE for the 2024 outline, including questions on auditing emerging technologies, and MeasureUp's domain split matches the real weights.
  • ISACA's wording and viewpoint. Questions ask what the auditor should do FIRST or what matters MOST, and the technically best answer is often wrong. The QAE teaches that phrasing; candidates describe Doshi's questions as awkwardly worded, with some conflicting answers.
  • Explanations for every option. The QAE explains why each wrong choice is wrong, which is the real learning. Books such as Wiley's give shorter explanations, so they suit review more than first-time learning.
  • Enough fresh questions to avoid memorising. The QAE pool is 1,070 questions plus three timed exams. Candidates who repeat it can reach 90%+ partly on recall, so a second source of unseen questions is a useful check.
  • Timed full-length runs. The exam is four hours, so look for a bank with real full exams. The QAE has three, Doshi's Udemy set has five, and MeasureUp has one.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual CISA questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items. ISACA's terms ban receiving or possessing exam content before the exam and let ISACA invalidate scores and revoke your certifications. A real practice test explains why each answer is right; a dump only lists answers.

How to use CISA practice tests

  • Read a domain, then practise that domain. Candidates who passed describe working through one domain at a time: read it in the review manual or a guide, then do the matching QAE questions.
  • Review every explanation, including the ones you got right. Passing candidates focus on why the other three options are worse, not on the score. Write down the audit principle behind each miss.
  • Learn the keyword logic. FIRST, MOST, BEST and PRIMARY change the answer. Re-read the question before you look at the choices, and answer as the auditor, not the person fixing the problem.
  • Track weak domains and repeat them. The QAE shows results by domain. One passer reports averages in the 60s on a first pass and the high 80s on a second; use the second pass to close gaps rather than to chase a score.
  • Finish with unseen full-length tests. Take a timed four-hour run late in your prep using questions you have not seen, such as a Doshi set. Do not treat a high QAE score from repetition as proof you are ready.

CISA practice test FAQ

Are there free CISA practice tests?

ISACA offers a free 10-question practice quiz with explanations; you submit a short form to see your results. ISACA does not publish a larger free bank, and free question lists elsewhere vary widely in quality.

Is the CISA QAE database like the real exam?

Candidates most often call it the closest practice available, with the same phrasing and reasoning style. Even so, some who scored 90%+ by repetition failed, so judge readiness by how well you explain the answers, not by your score.

How much does the CISA QAE database cost?

ISACA charges $399 for non-members and $299 for members for a six-month subscription, with an extension available. Membership costs $145 a year plus chapter dues but also lowers the exam fee.

How many CISA practice exams should I take?

ISACA sets no number. Most candidates finish the QAE once or twice and take its three timed exams, then add one or two full-length tests from another source before booking.
