CompTIA Linux+ (XK0-006) Practice Tests

Validates knowledge of Linux system management, services and users, security, automation and scripting, and troubleshooting.

Linux+ XK0-006 is up to 90 questions in 90 minutes: multiple choice plus performance-based questions (PBQs). The questions are short scenarios about commands, scripts and terminal output, and PBQs have you complete a task such as restoring an LVM volume. We compared the main options on PBQ coverage, volume and price.

Start with CompTIA's free 10-question sample, then add Dion's six timed exams and Pocket Prep's larger bank, and rerun every miss in a Linux virtual machine.

Linux+ (V8) Practice Test

Ten questions straight from CompTIA, including command-output scenarios and a select-two item, with an answer key but no explanations. It has no PBQs, so it shows the wording but not the simulations.

Great fit if you want to see CompTIA's own question style on V8 topics before you spend anything.

Poor fit if you need volume, explanations or a timed full run; use Dion or Pocket Prep.

Timed full exams

CompTIA Linux+ (XK0-006) 6 Practice Exams

Six timed 90-question exams mixing multiple choice and PBQ-style items, with a score report by domain. Candidate reports say they run easier than the real exam, so they test coverage and pacing more than readiness.

Great fit if you want several full, timed exams with domain scores at a very low price.

Poor fit if you want a hard final check or a real PBQ simulation; add Pocket Prep and practise tasks in a virtual machine.

Study on your phone

Linux+ XK0-006 Question Bank

Quizzes and mock exams in an app and in the browser, with explanations, results by subject and a weakest-subject mode for targeted drilling. It has the largest bank of the paid options.

Great fit if you study in short sessions and want a large bank to drill by subject.

Poor fit if you want a one-time purchase or PBQ practice; use Dion's exams and a virtual machine.

Budget objective review

TotalTester Online for CompTIA Linux+ (XK0-006)

A practice mode with hints and explanations and an exam mode with no help, filterable by objective. It is a small bank for the price and has no mobile app.

Great fit if you want a second, low-cost source of objective-by-objective questions to use after Dion's exams.

Poor fit if you study on your phone or want a bigger bank; use Pocket Prep.

Objective readiness scores

CertMaster Practice for Linux+ (XK0-006)

CompTIA's own practice tool with timed practice tests, objective quizzes and a mastery score for each exam objective. It costs several times what the third-party sets do.

Great fit if your employer or school provides it, or you buy CompTIA's $548 exam bundle, where it adds $29 to the voucher with retake.

Poor fit if you would pay $209 on its own; Dion and Pocket Prep cost far less.

What to look for in a Linux+ practice test

  • Match the exam code. XK0-006 (V8) launched July 15, 2025 and is the only Linux+ exam; XK0-005 retired in January 2026. Some Udemy listings still carry XK0-005 in their URLs or older four-domain weights, so look for XK0-006 and the five current domain names.
  • Check it covers the V8 topics. V8 adds containers (Docker, Podman), Ansible, Git, basic Python, KVM virtualization and AI best practices, and weights the domains 23%, 22%, 20%, 18% and 17%. A question set written for XK0-005 will miss these.
  • Expect commands and output, not just definitions. Candidates describe mostly vocabulary, what-does-this-command-do and troubleshooting questions rather than obscure flags, with some Python, LLM and CIS Benchmark items. Prefer sets that show real command output and explain each wrong option.
  • Treat PBQs as a separate need. Candidates report PBQs on tasks such as LVM restore and backup with archiving, and some call them hard. No third-party product reproduces a live terminal, and CompTIA's free sample has none, so practise the tasks in a virtual machine.
  • Check question volume and explanations. Free options give 10 to 30 questions, TotalTester about 250, Dion 540 and Pocket Prep 1,530. Skip cheap sets that say they give no explanations, because the explanation is where you learn the command.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual XK0-006 questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items. CompTIA's candidate agreement counts using brain dumps as misconduct and lets CompTIA revoke every CompTIA certification you hold. A real practice test explains why each answer is right; a dump only lists answers.

How to use Linux+ practice tests

  • Take one set cold as a diagnostic. Start with CompTIA's free sample or one Dion exam before heavy study, and read the explanation for every question, including the ones you got right.
  • Run each miss in a virtual machine. Repeat the command or task on a Debian-based and a Red Hat-based distribution until you can do it without notes. Parted, SELinux, systemctl and tar are commands candidates name as weak spots.
  • Log misses by domain. Write each miss against System Management, Services and User Management, Security, Automation and Scripting, or Troubleshooting, then retest that domain. System Management and Troubleshooting carry 45% together.
  • Do timed full runs late. In the last two weeks, sit 90-minute exams. One prep guide suggests flagging any PBQ that is taking too long and returning to it after the multiple-choice questions.
  • Read scores with the product in mind. Practice sets differ in difficulty, so judge progress by your trend within one product rather than a single score. Repeating the same exam teaches answers rather than commands; switch to fresh questions.

Linux+ practice test FAQ

Are there free Linux+ practice tests?

Yes. CompTIA publishes 10 free V8 questions with an answer key and no explanations, and Pocket Prep gives 30 free questions. Many other free Linux+ sets were written for the retired XK0-005, so check the exam code.

Are Linux+ practice tests harder than the real exam?

Candidate reports say Dion's exams are easier than the real exam, and Linux+ is widely described as one of CompTIA's harder exams. Use practice tests to find weak domains, and expect the real exam to test commands and output more deeply.

How many Linux+ practice tests should I take?

There is no official number. One full-length set plus a larger question bank is enough for most candidates, and the remaining time is better spent running commands in a virtual machine and reviewing every miss.

Do Linux+ practice tests include PBQs?

Dion's Udemy exams say they include PBQ-style items, while CompTIA's free sample has none. Candidates say the real PBQs are harder than practice versions, so rehearse the tasks in a virtual machine.
