CompTIA Linux+ (XK0-006) Courses

Validates knowledge of Linux system management, services and users, security, automation and scripting, and troubleshooting.

A good Linux+ course makes you practise real commands, because the XK0-006 exam rewards regular hands-on use and shows command output, logs and configuration files. We compared the main options on XK0-006 coverage, labs, practice questions and price.

Most people should start with Jason Dion's XK0-006 course on Dion Training: 30+ hours of video with labs and 500+ practice questions. Choose his Udemy version for a lower price and a 30-day refund, Richard Blum's Sybex guide for reading, and CertMaster Learn when an employer pays.

How to choose a Linux+ course

  • Match XK0-006. XK0-005 retired on January 13, 2026, so XK0-006 is the only Linux+ exam. All four options here cover it.
  • Practise on real machines. Set up two virtual machines, one Debian-based and one Red Hat-based, and type every command. Dion Training's course includes labs; with a book or the Udemy version you use your own machines.
  • Learn to read output. Many questions show command output, logs or configuration files and ask what is wrong. A course that makes you read real output prepares you better than definitions.
  • Pick one main course. Use one video course or book and add practice exams. Two overlapping courses cost time without adding much.

Recommended Linux+ course combinations

  • Lowest cost: Richard Blum's Sybex guide ($54 e-book) with CompTIA's free Linux+ practice test, then Jason Dion's 6 Practice Exams ($20).
  • Complete package: Dion Training's course ($315), which includes labs and 500+ practice questions, then Pocket Prep ($21/month) as a second question bank.
  • Already administer Linux: Skip the video course. Use the exam objectives, the Sybex guide ($54 e-book) for gaps and Dion's 6 Practice Exams ($20).
  • Employer pays: CertMaster Learn ($499) with CertMaster Practice ($209) for official lessons and practice.
