What holders say
A broad, demanding technical exam
Holders describe it as a combined final exam for Security+, CySA+ and PenTest+, with harder judgment calls where several answers look reasonable. Hands-on experience makes the practical questions much easier.
Long-time holders say it gets less recognition than CISSP despite being more technical. One February 2026 holder took it mainly to renew their CompTIA certifications and saw no extra recruiter interest.
SecurityX is valid for 3 years from the day you pass.
Validity
3 years
Renewal requirement
75 CEUs per cycle
Renewal fee
$150 USD
Renew with continuing education or by passing the latest SecurityX exam, which also waives the CE fee. Renewing SecurityX also renews the lower CompTIA certifications you hold.
Yes. CompTIA renamed CASP+ to SecurityX. The current exam is CAS-005, and CASP+ holders keep their certification.
Is SecurityX harder than CISSP?
They test different things. SecurityX is more technical and includes performance-based tasks; CISSP is broader and more management-focused, and it requires five years of paid experience.
How is SecurityX scored?
Pass or fail. There is no scaled score.
Does SecurityX renew my other CompTIA certifications?
Yes. Passing SecurityX renews CySA+, PenTest+, Security+, Network+ and A+ if you hold them.
Does SecurityX expire?
Yes, after three years. Renew with 75 CEUs and the CE fee, or by passing the latest SecurityX exam.
