CompTIA SecurityX (CAS-005) Practice Tests

Validates knowledge of enterprise security architecture and engineering, including governance, risk, compliance and security operations.

SecurityX CAS-005 is up to 90 questions in 165 minutes: multiple choice plus performance-based questions (PBQs). The questions are long scenarios where several answers look reasonable, and candidates report a Linux task too. We compared the main options on question style, PBQ coverage and price.

Start with CompTIA's free 10 questions and Training Camp's free 50, then use Jason Dion's six exams as your main set. No practice product reproduces the PBQs, so add hands-on labs.

SecurityX (V5) Practice Questions

Ten scenario questions from CompTIA with an answer key at the end but no explanations. A quick look at how CompTIA words a SecurityX question, including log and architecture scenarios.

Great fit if you want to see CompTIA's own question style before spending anything.

Poor fit if you need explanations, PBQs or a full-length run; move on to Training Camp or Dion.

Free timed test

Free SecurityX Practice Test

A 50-question timed test on the four CAS-005 domains, with a 25-question quick version. Every answer choice has an explanation, and each retake draws new questions. It asks for your name, email and phone first.

Great fit if you want a free, explained diagnostic across all four domains before buying a full set.

Poor fit if you need PBQs or several full-length exams; it is multiple choice only (see Dion).

Timed full exams

CompTIA SecurityX (CAS-005) 6 Practice Exams

Six timed 90-question exams with feedback on each question and results by domain. It is the set passing candidates name most, though they say the real exam's wording is harder and vaguer.

Great fit if you want the main full-length set, with enough exams to sit a timed run and still have fresh ones left.

Poor fit if you need PBQ or Linux-task practice; it is multiple choice, so add labs.

Cheap extra questions

CompTIA SecurityX (CAS-005) Practice Exam Pack

Randomized question sets with answer explanations and unlimited attempts, drawn from a larger bank than Dion's Udemy exams. Each attempt gives a fresh mix of questions.

Great fit if you want a cheap extra source of fresh questions beside the Udemy exams.

Poor fit if you want fixed, numbered full-length exams to track from one sitting to the next; use the Udemy set.

Study on your phone

SecurityX Question Bank

The largest bank here, in short quizzes and mock exams with explanations and progress by subject. Quiz modes include weakest subject and missed questions.

Great fit if you study in short sessions on your phone and want a large bank to drill by domain.

Poor fit if you want a one-time purchase or PBQ practice; use Dion's exams and labs.

Referenced explanations

CompTIA SecurityX (CAS-005) Practice Test

A certification mode that holds explanations until the end, and a practice mode where you set the question count and timer, with referenced explanations. A free demo lets you try it first.

Great fit if you want a second, independent bank with referenced explanations and can use the free demo first.

Poor fit if you are on a budget; Dion's $80 exams hold more than twice the questions.

Objective drills

CertMaster Practice for SecurityX (CAS-005)

CompTIA's own practice product, with timed practice exams, quizzes by objective and a mastery score for each objective. Candidates say its questions are easier than the real exam's.

Great fit if your employer pays, or you buy CompTIA's exam bundle, where it adds little to the voucher cost.

Poor fit if you would pay $284 alone; Dion's pack costs a tenth as much.

What to look for in a SecurityX practice test

  • Match the exam code. CAS-005 (V5) has run since December 17, 2024, and CompTIA estimates it retires in 2027 with no successor announced. Pick products that name CAS-005; older CASP+ (CAS-004) tests cover the previous exam.
  • Expect harder wording than the practice sets. The exam has up to 90 questions in 165 minutes, and candidates report 77 or 78. They describe items where several answers are correct and you pick the best subset, plus vague options. Candidates say Dion, MeasureUp and CertMaster questions run easier.
  • Plan PBQ practice separately. Two 2026 pass reports describe three PBQs plus a Linux task that cannot be skipped, with PBQs coming first. The practice sets here are multiple choice, so add labs such as CertMaster Labs or Dion's SecurityX lab, and CySA+ and PenTest+ style PBQs.
  • Look for explanations of the wrong options. The best answer often depends on one detail in the scenario. Training Camp explains every choice, and Dion, Pocket Prep and MeasureUp explain answers; CompTIA's free 10 questions come with an answer key only.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual CAS-005 questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items. CompTIA's candidate agreement counts using brain dumps as misconduct and lets CompTIA revoke every CompTIA certification you hold. A real practice test explains why each answer is right; a dump only lists answers.

How to use SecurityX practice tests

  • Take a free test cold as a diagnostic. Do CompTIA's 10 questions or Training Camp's 50 before heavy study, and note which of the four domains you miss: governance, architecture, engineering or operations.
  • Say why the best answer beats the second best. For each miss, write the detail in the scenario that separates the two options. That judgment is what the exam tests, more than recall.
  • Keep acronyms and technology details on a short list. Candidates report meeting unfamiliar acronyms on the exam and falling back on elimination. Drill terms with a question bank such as Pocket Prep between full exams.
  • Do timed full runs late. Sit Dion's 90-question exams in one go, as the real exam is 165 minutes with long scenarios. Practise leaving a doubtful question after elimination so you finish with time to review.
  • Don't treat a practice percentage as a verdict. SecurityX gives no numeric score, only pass or fail, and candidates say practice sets are easier than the exam. Judge readiness by whether you can explain every answer, not by a single result.

SecurityX practice test FAQ

Are there free SecurityX practice tests?

Yes. CompTIA publishes 10 free CAS-005 questions with an answer key, and Training Camp offers a free 50-question test with an explanation for every answer choice. Training Camp asks for your name, email and phone number first.

Are SecurityX practice tests harder than the real exam?

Usually not. Candidates who used Dion, CertMaster, MeasureUp or Mark Birch's book say the real exam is harder, with vaguer options and more than one good answer, so a strong practice result does not guarantee a pass.

How many SecurityX practice tests should I take?

There is no official number. Several passing candidates worked through Dion's six exams and added one other source, reviewing every miss instead of retaking exams.

Do SecurityX practice tests include PBQs?

Almost none do. Training Camp's test and Dion's Udemy exams are multiple choice, so practise PBQs and the Linux task in labs.
