Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) Practice Tests

Validates knowledge of leading Six Sigma projects, including the DMAIC method, advanced statistics, team management and organizational deployment.

CSSBB is a 165-question, open-book exam (150 scored) over 4 hours 18 minutes, with many items where two answers sound reasonable and one is best. We compared the main options on question style, official coverage and price.

Most people should start with Quality Gurus' free 50 questions. Make ASQ's three 150-question sets your main readiness check and use the ASQ Study Guide for reps by section.

What to look for in a CSSBB practice test

  • Built for the 2022 Body of Knowledge. The exam has 150 scored questions across nine sections: Organization-wide planning 12, Process management 12, Team management 15, Define 20, Measure 25, Analyze 22, Improve 21, Control 17 and Design for Six Sigma 6. A bank should cover leadership, team and deployment topics, not only the DMAIC statistics.
  • Best-answer questions, not recall. A recent passer called the paper straightforward rather than trick-heavy, with some items where two answers make sense and you pick the better one. Prefer banks that explain why the other options are weaker.
  • Full-length stamina. The sitting is 165 questions in 4 hours 18 minutes, about 94 seconds a question. ASQ's sets are 150 questions each, and Quality Gurus draws a fresh 150-question mock from 426 questions.
  • Study-guide questions are easier than the exam. Candidates say the ASQ Study Guide is good for reps by section but simpler and closer to the book's wording than the real paper. ASQ's question bank is described as closer to the exam's style.
  • Solutions you can learn from. Choose products that explain every answer. ASQ's bank, QCI and Quality Gurus all do, and QCI and Quality Gurus add references back to the Body of Knowledge.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual CSSBB questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items. ASQ's testing agreement bans using leaked exam material and lets ASQ cancel scores and revoke your certifications. A real practice test explains why each answer is right; a dump only lists answers.

How to use CSSBB practice tests

  • Start with a short diagnostic. Take a free 25-question set, then score yourself by section. Measure, Analyze and Improve are 68 of the 150 scored questions, so check them early.
  • Use your real reference in every run. The exam is open book with bound references only. A recent passer brought the handbook plus their own notes in a 3-ring binder; build yours now and practise finding things with it.
  • Skip calculations on the first pass. A recent passer skipped calculation and chart-reading items first, flagged them, and came back; they used a calculator on only about five questions. Rehearse that routine in timed sets.
  • Do all three ASQ sets, spaced out. Take one set cold, review it fully, then take the others closer to the exam. Add a randomised mock for extra full-length runs.
  • Do not memorise repeats. ASQ allows unlimited retakes for 365 days, but a set you remember no longer measures anything. Switch to a fresh bank once your scores jump on repeats.

CSSBB practice test FAQ

Are there free CSSBB practice tests?

ASQ does not publish a free sample exam; its question bank and study guide are paid. Quality Gurus gives 50 free exam-style questions (a 25-question review set and a 25-question, 60-minute mock) with explanations and no signup.

Is the ASQ Study Guide easier than the real CSSBB exam?

Candidates who passed say yes: its questions are good for reps by section but simpler than the exam. ASQ's question bank is described as closer to the real exam's style.

How many CSSBB practice exams should I take?

Two or three full 150-question runs on questions you have not seen, each followed by a full review, is a sensible target. ASQ's bank has three sets and Quality Gurus draws a fresh 150-question mock each attempt.

How should I pace a CSSBB practice exam?

The exam gives 4 hours 18 minutes for 165 questions, about 94 seconds each. Make a first pass that skips long calculations, flag them, then use the remaining time on flagged items.
