Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA) Practice Tests

Validates foundational knowledge of business analysis, including core concepts, techniques, requirements and the role of the business analyst.

Since July 2025 the ECBA exam has 50 situation-based and standard multiple-choice questions in 75 minutes across nine domains. We compared the main options on official coverage, question volume and price.

IIBA's free sample questions and the practice exam included with your exam purchase are the closest match, so most people should use them first. Then add a low-cost bank built on the nine domains if you want more volume.

ECBA sample exam questions

Situation-based questions, each tied to a blueprint activity statement and followed by the answer and a one-line rationale. A quick way to see the style before you commit.

Great fit if you want to see the exam's wording and level before you spend anything.

Poor fit if you need volume or timed practice; use the practice exam, then a paid bank.

Official practice exam

ECBA practice exam

A timed test in IIBA's own exam environment, with results by category and an explanation for each answer. The review closes when you leave it, so set aside two to three hours.

Great fit if you have bought the exam and want the closest rehearsal of its wording and difficulty.

Poor fit if you want many attempts; you get two, so work through the sample questions and a paid bank first.

Low-cost volume

ECBA Question Bank

Domain tests and full-length tests with explanations and a performance dashboard, laid out on the nine new domain weights. A candidate who passed credits its practice tests for repeating weak areas.

Great fit if you want cheap extra volume after the IIBA practice exam.

Poor fit if you want wording as close to IIBA's as possible; the practice exam is the better benchmark.

Timed simulations

ECBA Simulation

Chapter questions plus six 50-question simulations with answer explanations. A recent passer found Adaptive's free sample much easier than the real exam, so use it for volume rather than as a gauge.

Great fit if you want timed 50-question simulations beyond IIBA's two attempts.

Poor fit if you want a readiness gauge; use the IIBA practice exam for that.

What to look for in a ECBA practice test

  • Built for the July 2025 exam and its nine domains. The exam moved from five knowledge areas to nine domains: Understanding Business Analysis 20%, Mindset 14%, Implementing 6%, then Change, Need, Solution, Stakeholder, Value and Context at 10% each. Check the product page lists these, because older banks use the earlier structure.
  • Situation-based questions, not definitions. IIBA's sample questions give a short workplace scenario and ask for the best first or supporting action. A bank of recall questions about BABOK terms will test the wrong skill.
  • IIBA's own wording is the benchmark. A passer in July 2026 found IIBA's practice exam in line with the real exam's difficulty and writing style, and the Watermark and Adaptive US mocks he tried much easier. Use IIBA's questions to judge readiness and others for extra reps.
  • Explanations for every answer. IIBA's practice exam explains why each answer you selected is correct or incorrect, but only during the review session. Prefer a bank that keeps explanations available so you can reread them.
  • Enough extra volume after two official attempts. The practice exam allows two attempts, and a candidate who failed once had already used both. A paid bank with several full 50-question tests covers the gap.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual ECBA questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items, not practice. Use products that write their own questions and explain every answer, so you learn the reasoning the exam tests.

How to use ECBA practice tests

  • Read the sample questions before anything else. Each comes with a blueprint activity statement and a rationale. Notice that the best answer is usually the collaborative, supporting step an entry-level analyst would take.
  • Take the IIBA practice exam when you are nearly ready. You get two attempts and cannot reopen the results, so save the first for when you have covered all nine domains and keep notes on your weak ones during the review.
  • Track results by domain. Domains 1 to 3 are 40% of the exam and come from The Business Analysis Standard; domains 4 to 9 are the BABOK-based core concepts. A strong score in one group should not hide a weak spot in the other.
  • Send misses back to the Reference Map. IIBA's Reference Map ties each activity statement to The Business Analysis Standard and the BABOK Guide, so a missed question tells you exactly which section to reread.
  • Do not treat an easy third-party score as readiness. Candidates describe some mock exams as much easier than the real one. Compare your result on a paid bank with how you did on IIBA's practice exam before booking.

ECBA practice test FAQ

Are there free ECBA practice tests?

IIBA publishes a free PDF of ten sample questions with answers and rationales. Its full practice exam is included when you buy the exam, and Techcanvass and Adaptive US both offer free trials.

How close is the IIBA practice exam to the real ECBA?

IIBA says it matches the real exam's content, format and competency level, with the same 50 questions and 75 minutes. A passer in July 2026 agreed, and found other mock exams much easier.

How many times can I take the IIBA practice exam?

Twice, within six months of buying the exam. Results and explanations are available only during the review session, so you cannot reopen them later.

What question types are on the new ECBA exam?

A mix of situation-based and standard multiple-choice questions, 50 in 75 minutes, taken online with a remote proctor. They cover nine domains drawn from The Business Analysis Standard and the BABOK Guide.
