How to choose a GitHub Administration course

  • Use the official materials. Microsoft updated the GH-100 skills measured in July 2026, and most third-party courses and question sets were written for the earlier outline. The Learn paths come from the official study guide.
  • Practise in a real enterprise. GH-100 tests settings such as SSO, SCIM, audit logs and Actions policies. Set up a GitHub Enterprise trial and change the same settings as you read.
  • Take both paths in order. Part 1 covers basics, administration controls and products. Part 2 covers security policies, identity, enterprise support, Actions and Packages.
  • Find your gaps early. Take Microsoft's free practice assessment before you start and again after each path.

What is the best GH-100 course?

Microsoft Learn's two free GitHub Administration paths, because they follow the official study guide. Most people do not need a paid course.

Can I pass GH-100 with free resources?

Yes. The Learn paths, Microsoft's practice assessment and a GitHub Enterprise trial are free. Add a paid question set only if you want more practice.

How long does a GH-100 course take?

The two paths have nine modules between them. Plan for about 35 hours of preparation in total, from 25 to 50 depending on your admin experience.

Do I need GitHub admin experience first?

No. Anyone can book the exam, but Microsoft recommends hands-on experience administering GitHub Enterprise.
