Each HubSpot Academy certification has its own free course and exam, so a good choice matches your job and shows either the inbound method or real skill in HubSpot's software. We compared the six courses on topic, length, practical exercises and the role they suit.

Most people should start with the Inbound Marketing Certification, HubSpot's best-known credential at about five hours. Choose Digital Marketing for a broader overview, Content or Email Marketing for those roles, and the Marketing Hub or Sales Hub certification if you use HubSpot at work.

Inbound Marketing Certification

About five hours of video lessons on content, lead generation, segmentation, automation and reporting, followed by a free online exam. It is HubSpot's best-known certification and teaches the inbound method rather than the software.

Great fit if you want the most recognized HubSpot methodology certification

Poor fit if you need to prove you can use HubSpot software; choose Marketing Hub or Sales Hub

Broad overview

Digital Marketing Certification

A 3 h 25 min survey of digital marketing across ads, social media, content, SEO, email and AI. It is the shortest of the marketing certifications and gives a first look at every channel.

Great fit if you want one certification that covers every major digital channel

Poor fit if you want depth in one channel; choose Content or Email Marketing

Content roles

Content Marketing Certification

About eight hours on content strategy, planning, production, promotion and performance analysis. It is the longest of the six and gives the most depth to people who write or manage content.

Great fit if you write or manage content

Poor fit if you want a short certification; choose Digital Marketing

Email roles

Email Marketing Certification

About four hours on segmentation, deliverability, personalization, automation and A/B testing for email. It goes deeper on one channel than the Digital Marketing overview.

Great fit if email is a big part of your role

Poor fit if you are choosing your first certification; start with Inbound Marketing

Marketing software skills

HubSpot Marketing Hub Software Certification

About five hours of lessons on HubSpot's marketing tools, plus graded practical exercises you complete in a HubSpot account. It shows you can use the software, not only the method.

Great fit if you use HubSpot at work or apply for roles that do

Poor fit if you have no HubSpot use in your role; choose Inbound Marketing

Sales CRM skills

HubSpot Sales Hub Software Certification

About 1 h 45 min of lessons on HubSpot's sales tools for day-to-day CRM work, with five practical exercises. It is the shortest course here.

Great fit if you work in sales on HubSpot

Poor fit if you work outside sales; choose Marketing Hub Software or Inbound Marketing

How to choose a HubSpot Academy Certifications course

  • Pick the topic first. Each certification is a separate course and exam. Choose the one that matches your role instead of collecting all six.
  • Separate method from software. Inbound, Digital, Content and Email Marketing teach marketing practice. The Marketing Hub and Sales Hub certifications test HubSpot's tools through graded practical exercises in a HubSpot account, and a free or trial account works.
  • Check the length. Courses run from about 1 hour 45 minutes (Sales Hub) to about 8 hours (Content Marketing).
  • Mind how long it lasts. The software certifications are valid for one year and the others for two, so the Hub certifications need renewing sooner.
