NN/g UX Certification (UXC) Courses

Validates knowledge of user experience practice, including research, interaction design, management and AI applications.

A UX Certification course has to be a live NN/g course, because only live attendance qualifies you for that course's exam. We compared the full catalog and two core courses on topic, format and price.

Most people should start with UX Basic Training, then choose four more live courses around one specialty from the full catalog. Choose Usability Testing if you run or plan user research.

NN/g live online courses

The required route: choose 5 of more than 50 live courses across AI, Interaction Design, Research and Management. Each course is about 7 hours over 1 or 2 days on Zoom, with downloadable slides and a separate $95 online exam.

Great fit if you want live expert teaching and can attend scheduled sessions

Poor fit if you need self-paced study; NN/g's self-paced courses do not count toward certification

Research specialty

Usability Testing

A live course on planning and running usability studies: choosing methods, writing unbiased tasks, facilitating sessions and reporting findings. It runs 2 half days on Zoom, with hands-on practice, instructor feedback and slides as a PDF.

Great fit if you run or want to run user research

Poor fit if you already lead usability studies regularly; pick a course on a topic you have not covered

New to UX

UX Basic Training

NN/g's foundational course on the concepts everyone in UX should know: the UX mindset and its business value, organizational UX maturity and the design cycle, including research methods, heuristic evaluations, personas and journey maps. It runs 1 day or 2 half days.

Great fit if you are newer to UX or come from another discipline

Poor fit if you already have a strong design background; choose Usability Testing or another specialty course

How to choose a UXC course

  • Only live courses count. Each of the five exams follows a live NN/g course. Self-paced courses cost less but do not count toward the certification.
  • Choose around a specialty. Five courses in AI, Interaction Design, Research or Management earn a specialty. Pick your five before you book.
  • Take each exam soon after the course. Each exam is 30 questions in 1 hour and must be taken within 35 days of the course. You need 80% to pass, and notes are allowed.
  • Budget for the full route. UX Certification costs about $6,500: five courses at roughly $1,215 to $1,260 plus a $95 exam each. Sessions are live and not recorded.

Recommended UXC course combinations

  • Employer pays: Five live courses from the full catalog, about $6,500 with the exams, each exam taken within 35 days of its course.
  • Before each exam: Review your course slides and notes, and read NN/g's two free example exam questions.
