Most people should read the free Scrum Guide, then take Scrum.org's $279 self-paced course, which includes a PSM I attempt. Choose Mirko Perkusich's Udemy course for 300+ practice questions at $125, and Scrum.org's two-day class when your employer pays or you want a trainer.

Free official guide

Scrum Guide

The official definition of Scrum by its creators, Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland, in under 13 pages as a web page or PDF. PSM I questions are written against its wording, so every route starts here.

Great fit if you are starting your preparation; everyone needs it

Poor fit if you want worked examples; pair it with Scrum.org's self-paced course

How to choose a PSM I course

  • Study the Scrum Guide's wording. PSM I questions are written against the 2020 Scrum Guide, so choose a course that stays close to it rather than adding other frameworks.
  • Check whether the attempt is included. Scrum.org's class and self-paced course include a PSM I attempt, which costs $200 alone. Perkusich's Udemy course and the Scrum Guide do not.
  • Practise to 85%. You need 85% on 80 questions in 60 minutes. A course with 300+ practice questions or a separate simulator shows whether you are ready.
  • Pick the depth you need. If you already work on a Scrum Team, the Guide plus practice questions may be enough. Choose the class only if you want a trainer or your employer pays.

Recommended PSM I course combinations

  • Lowest cost: The free Scrum Guide, Scrum.org's free Scrum Open and Volkerdon's Scrum Master Exam Simulator ($10), then the $200 attempt.
  • Best value: Scrum.org's self-paced course ($279 with the attempt) and Management Plaza's PSM I Exam Simulator ($44 for one year).
  • Want a big question bank: Mirko Perkusich's course ($125) with Ludovic Julien's Mock Exams Scrum Master Certification 2026 - 800 Questions ($80), plus the $200 attempt.
  • Employer pays: Scrum.org's two-day class, which includes the attempt, then Scrum Open (free) for extra practice.
