Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) Practice Tests

Validates knowledge of Scrum principles, Scrum Master responsibilities and applying the Scrum framework to support effective teams.

PSM I is 80 questions in 60 minutes on the 2020 Scrum Guide, mixing multiple choice, multiple answer and true/false. We compared the main options on question volume, difficulty and price.

Most people should start with Scrum.org's free Scrum Open, add a free timed mock, then use a paid bank for volume. Scrum.org says its Open tests are easier than the real one, so finish with a tougher set.

Official free baseline

Scrum Open

Scrum.org's own practice test: 30 questions drawn at random from a larger pool, with no certification attached. Scrum.org says it is easier than the paid test, and candidates report a few of its questions reappearing on the real exam.

Great fit if you want to see Scrum.org's own wording and check your baseline before buying anything.

Poor fit if you need volume or a timed 80-question run; add TheScrumMaster.co.uk's free test or a paid bank.

Free timed mock

Free Scrum Master I (PSM I) Practice Assessment

Sixty questions in 45 minutes, written by the company's principal trainer Simon Kneafsey, with feedback on every answer. It uses multiple choice, multiple answer and true/false items like the real test.

Great fit if you want a free, timed run longer than Scrum Open's 30 questions, with explanations.

Poor fit if you want the full 80-question, 60-minute format; the paid TheScrumMaster.co.uk bank has it as a practice mode.

Big low-cost bank

Ultimate Scrum Master I (PSM I) Practice Assessment

A pool of 500+ questions with feedback on every answer: a learning mode with no time limit, and a practice mode of 80 random questions in 60 minutes. Written to the 2020 Scrum Guide.

Great fit if you want the most questions for the money plus a timed run that matches the real format.

Poor fit if you want a tougher rehearsal than the real test; add the Udemy mock exams (see below).

Timed exam simulator

PSM I Exam Simulator

Timed PSM I-style exams built from 285 base questions that change slightly on every attempt, with an explanation for every question. The maker's own FAQ calls the real exam well formed but not easy.

Great fit if you want many timed full-length attempts that vary between sittings and explain every answer.

Poor fit if you only need a final check; Scrum Open and the free TheScrumMaster.co.uk test cost nothing.

Harder extra practice

Mock Exams Scrum Master Certification 2026 - 800 Questions

Six unofficial tests of 120 or 160 questions with detailed explanations, written to be as hard as or slightly harder than the real test, with trap answers.

Great fit if you already do well on the easier sets and want tougher scenario questions.

Poor fit if you want 80-question runs in the real format; its tests are 120 to 160 questions.

Cheap extra questions

Scrum Master Exam Simulator

Five 80-question mock tests, a 20-question advanced set and a random 80-question exam, with explanations. Volkerdon says it follows the 2020 Scrum Guide (last updated August 2024).

Great fit if you want a low-cost second bank and will check any keyed answer you doubt against the Scrum Guide.

Poor fit if you want answers you can trust without checking; some candidates report keyed answers that differ from the Guide.

What to look for in a PSM I practice test

  • Match the 2020 Scrum Guide, not older ones. The Scrum Guide was last revised in 2020, and older sets teach removed terms such as the Development Team. Check that a set names the 2020 Guide.
  • All three question types, with a timed 80-question run. The real test has 80 questions in 60 minutes and mixes multiple choice, multiple answer and true/false. TheScrumMaster.co.uk's practice mode and Management Plaza's simulator both reproduce that format.
  • Explanations that send you back to the Guide. Scrum.org shows you a score by focus area, not which questions you missed, so practice explanations are where you find out why an answer is wrong.
  • Honest expectations about difficulty. Scrum.org says its Open assessments are easier than the real test, and some candidates report the real questions are wordier. Add one set that is at least as hard before you book.
  • Care with third-party answer keys. An experienced r/scrum commenter warns that unofficial sets can reflect a different reading of the Guide than Scrum.org's. If a keyed answer looks wrong, settle it from the Guide's text.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual PSM I questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items. Scrum.org's assessment rules require that you have seen none of the answers in advance, and Scrum.org can revoke your certifications and disable your account. A real practice test explains why each answer is right; a dump only lists answers.

How to use PSM I practice tests

  • Read the Guide first, then take Scrum Open as a diagnostic. The Guide is short and the questions are written against it. Your Scrum Open result shows which events, accountabilities or artifacts to reread.
  • Tie every miss back to a sentence in the Guide. For each wrong answer, find the Guide text that decides it. Passing candidates say the learning happens in the review, not in the score.
  • Repeat the Open assessment until it is quick and clean. Several candidates report a few Open questions reappearing on the real test, so fast, error-free Open runs are cheap insurance.
  • Run timed 80-question sets in the last week. Sixty minutes leaves 45 seconds a question. Practise reading carefully, because negatives and absolutes such as NOT, EXCEPT, always and only are where candidates say they slip.
  • Mix sources instead of repeating one set. Once you remember a bank's answers it stops measuring understanding. Rotate between TheScrumMaster.co.uk, Management Plaza and a harder set.

PSM I practice test FAQ

Are there free PSM I practice tests?

Yes. Scrum.org's Scrum Open (30 questions) is the official free one, and TheScrumMaster.co.uk offers a free 60-question test.

Are the Scrum.org Open assessments enough for PSM I?

Some candidates pass on the Scrum Guide and the Open assessments alone. Scrum.org says the Opens are easier than the real test, so most people add a second question source for volume and harder wording.

How many PSM I practice tests should I take?

There is no set number. Take the Open assessments until they feel easy, then two or three timed 80-question runs on questions you have not seen, reviewing each miss against the Guide.
