CompTIA Project+ (PK0-005) Practice Tests

Validates foundational knowledge of project management concepts, life cycle phases, tools and documentation, and IT governance basics.

Project+ PK0-005 is up to 90 questions in 90 minutes: multiple choice plus a few performance-based questions (PBQs). The questions are short scenarios that ask for the best next step. We compared the main options on exam-style wording, PBQ coverage and price.

Start with CompTIA's free 10 questions, then work through Jason Dion's timed exams, and add a second source with different wording, such as Pocket Prep or the Sybex book, before you book.

CompTIA Project+ (V5) Practice Questions

CompTIA's own 10-question sample for the current exam, with an answer key at the end. The quickest way to see how CompTIA words a Project+ question.

Great fit if you want a first look at official question style before paying for anything.

Poor fit if you need explanations or a full-length run; move on to Dion or Pocket Prep.

Timed full exams

CompTIA Project+ (PK0-005) Practice Exams

Six timed 90-question exams with simulation-style items, feedback on every answer and a score by domain and objective. Many passers use it, though some report wrong explanations and off-objective questions.

Great fit if you want several timed full-length exams and will check odd questions against the exam objectives.

Poor fit if you want cleaner explanations or a second style of wording; add Pocket Prep or the Sybex book.

Study on your phone

Pocket Prep CompTIA Project+

Short quizzes and mock exams across the four domains, with an explanation for every question and progress tracked by subject. Good for spare minutes on a phone, less so for rehearsing a full sitting.

Great fit if you study in short sessions on your phone and want a second set of questions in different wording.

Poor fit if you want a one-time purchase; Dion costs less overall.

Practice test book

CompTIA Project+ Practice Tests: Exam PK0-005, 2nd Edition

Domain-by-domain questions with explanations in a book by Project+ author Brett J. Feddersen, updated with agile and iterative questions. One passer called its question bank the closest match to the exam's style.

Great fit if you want a book of Project+ questions with explanations and prefer a second wording style to Dion's.

Poor fit if you want timed exams you can retake in volume; choose Dion.

Low-cost question bank

Crucial Exams CompTIA Project+ PK0-005

A 500-question bank with custom timed practice tests, one-at-a-time study mode and 116 flashcards, on web and mobile. Free users can run 20-question tests with no sign-up.

Great fit if you want the cheapest paid question bank and a free taste first.

Poor fit if you want a long-established Project+ set; Dion and Pocket Prep have more candidate feedback.

Official objective drills

CompTIA CertMaster Practice for Project+ (PK0-005)

CompTIA's official practice tool: timed and untimed tests with PBQs and a mastery score for each objective. Candidates find the questions ambiguous and the PBQs harder than the real exam, but useful for spotting gaps.

Great fit if you already have it through a school or CompTIA bundle, or want official objective-by-objective practice and PBQ rehearsal.

Poor fit if you are buying one practice product on a budget; Dion and Pocket Prep give more for far less.

What to look for in a Project+ practice test

  • Make sure it says PK0-005. PK0-005 (V5) has been the only Project+ exam since November 2022, and CompTIA has announced no successor or retirement date. Skip anything labelled PK0-004; passers say the newer exam is a better match for current material.
  • Expect scenario wording that is vague. Many questions describe a project situation and ask what the project manager should do next, with two true-sounding answers. Candidates call CompTIA's wording dry and awkward, so practise reading closely.
  • Look for PBQs separately. The exam has up to 90 questions in 90 minutes, mostly multiple choice with a small number of PBQs; one passer reported 1 PBQ and 80 multiple-choice. Dion's Udemy set and CertMaster Practice include PBQ-style items; Pocket Prep and the Sybex book do not advertise them.
  • Check explanations against the objectives. Dion explains every answer and maps it to an objective, but some candidates report errors and off-objective questions. Compare any surprising answer with the official exam objectives before you memorise it.
  • Mix sources for fresh questions. CompTIA's free sample is 10 questions, Dion gives 540, Crucial Exams 500 and Pocket Prep 1,030. Two sources with different wording keep late practice unseen.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual PK0-005 questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items. CompTIA's candidate agreement counts using brain dumps as misconduct and lets CompTIA revoke every CompTIA certification you hold. A real practice test explains why each answer is right; a dump only lists answers.

How to use Project+ practice tests

  • Start with a short diagnostic. Take CompTIA's 10 questions or a free Crucial Exams test early and note which of the four domains you miss: project concepts, life cycle phases, tools and documentation, or IT and governance.
  • Read the explanation for every miss and every guess. A guessed right answer is still a gap. Write down why the correct option wins, especially the change control steps, which passers say come up often.
  • Drill acronyms, charts and documents. Passers report several questions on which chart, diagram or document fits a scenario (SOW, RFP, RACI, WBS). Use flashcards or topic quizzes from Pocket Prep or Crucial Exams for repeat drilling.
  • Save timed full runs for the end. Do 90 questions in 90 minutes in exam mode. Several passers scored in the 60s and 70s on Dion and CertMaster and still passed, so read a middling score as a signal to review, not a verdict.
  • Do not memorise repeats. Retaking the same exam tests recall, not understanding. Switch to a different source for later runs.

Project+ practice test FAQ

Are there free Project+ practice tests?

Yes. CompTIA publishes a free 10-question PK0-005 sample with an answer key, Crucial Exams offers free 20-question tests with no sign-up, and Pocket Prep gives 30 free questions. None replaces a full-length timed exam with explanations.

Are Project+ practice tests harder than the real exam?

Candidates who used CertMaster and the Sybex question bank say the practice questions are more ambiguous and the PBQs harder than on the real exam. Several passed after scoring in the 60s and 70s in practice.

How many Project+ practice exams should I take?

There is no official number. Take a short diagnostic first, then two or three full timed exams from at least two sources, reviewing every wrong answer, until your results stop changing.

Do Project+ practice tests include PBQs?

Some do. Dion's Udemy set describes simulation-style questions, and CertMaster Practice includes a timed test with PBQs. Pocket Prep and the Sybex book do not advertise them.
