FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) Practice Tests

Validates foundational knowledge of the FinOps Framework, including its principles, personas, capabilities and scopes, for managing cloud spend.

FinOps Certified Practitioner is a 50-question, one-hour online exam on Framework vocabulary: phases, personas, principles and capabilities. We compared the main options on question volume, timed runs and price.

The FinOps Foundation has no public question bank, so most people should start with a free 15-question set to check their terms. Then add one or two low-cost timed sets for 50-question practice.

FinOps Certified Practitioner Guide: 15 Sample Questions

Fifteen multiple-choice questions with an answer key, covering phases, showback versus chargeback, rate optimisation, unit economics, personas and FOCUS. They are definition-level, with no written explanations.

Great fit if you want a free, quick check that you know the Framework's basic terms.

Poor fit if you need timed 50-question runs or explanations; use Whizlabs or a Udemy set.

Short timed runs

FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) Practice Tests

A free 15-question test plus two paid 50-question tests, the same length as the real exam. Small, but enough for two timed dry runs from a known test-prep maker.

Great fit if you want two exam-length runs at a low price from an established brand.

Poor fit if you want a large bank to drill on; add a Udemy set.

Recent question bank

FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) Exam Questions

Five 50-question, 60-minute tests with explanations that cite FinOps Foundation documentation, updated October 2026. Several reviewers say they passed after using it.

Great fit if you want the biggest recently updated bank with explanations tied to the Framework.

Poor fit if you want a set with a long review history; its 4.6 rating rests on eight reviews.

Low-cost volume

FinOps Certified Practitioner: 250 Exam & Practice Tests

Five 50-question tests with a one-hour timer, mixing single-answer, multi-select, yes/no and fill-in-the-blank items. Reviewers say explanations are short and fill-in answers are marked on exact wording.

Great fit if you want cheap extra timed practice and can ignore the question formats the real exam does not use.

Poor fit if you want detailed explanations; the Cloud Practice Provider set or Whizlabs fits better.

What to look for in a FOCP practice test

  • Match the current Framework. The Framework had updates in March 2026 and the course now covers scopes and technology categories alongside phases and personas. A candidate who took the exam in April 2026 called one older Udemy set outdated, with vendor-specific questions nothing like the exam, so prefer sets updated in 2026.
  • Expect a short exam of definitions and scenarios. The real exam is 50 multiple-choice questions in one hour, taken online without a proctor, with three attempts in 12 months. Sets built as 50-question, one-hour tests give the right pacing.
  • Skip formats the exam does not use. Some third-party sets add fill-in-the-blank or yes/no items, and fill-in answers are marked on exact wording. Treat those as vocabulary drills, not as exam practice.
  • Look for explanations that cite the Framework. The Framework is free on finops.org, so the best explanations name the principle, phase or capability behind the answer. Short answer keys with no reasoning teach little.
  • Do not expect official questions. The Foundation does not share exam answers and publishes no practice test, so every set here is third-party. Avoid sites selling leaked exam questions.
  • Skip sites selling "real exam questions." Sites promising actual FinOps Certified Practitioner questions or a guaranteed pass are selling leaked or copied items, not practice. Use products that write their own questions and explain every answer, so you learn the reasoning the exam tests.

How to use FOCP practice tests

  • Learn the Framework first. Practice sets check vocabulary but do not teach it. Read the Framework on finops.org, or take the Foundation's course, before you spend on question banks.
  • Take one free set cold. Use the FinOps Weekly questions or the Whizlabs free test to see which terms you confuse before you study further.
  • Sort misses by phase and persona. Note whether each miss was Inform, Optimize or Operate, or about a persona or principle, then reread that part of the Framework.
  • Learn the look-alike pairs. Many questions turn on telling similar ideas apart, such as showback and chargeback, or rate and usage optimisation.
  • Finish with a timed 50-question run. Take one full set in 60 minutes a few days before the exam, then review every explanation rather than repeating the same set.

FOCP practice test FAQ

Are there free FinOps Certified Practitioner practice tests?

The FinOps Foundation has no public practice test. Free options are FinOps Weekly's 15 sample questions and the free 15-question test on Whizlabs.

What format is the FOCP exam?

50 multiple-choice questions in one hour, taken online without a proctor. You get three attempts within 12 months of buying the exam.

Do I need the official course to pass?

No. The exam alone costs $325 and the course with the exam costs $500. Candidates on r/FinOps say the free Framework, the O'Reilly book or an inexpensive video course was enough, then practice questions to check recall.

How many practice tests should I take?

Two or three timed 50-question sets, each followed by a full review, is enough for most people. Take a new set rather than repeating one you remember.
